Replacement for the "X"
thats not true if you end up reselling it. people never factor in when buying a car for good gas mileage, you also have to sell or total the car........which will get you alot of your money back because they hold value.
65-70mpg is the normal entry turbodiesel car gas mileage in Europe(has been like that for the last 10 years). The prius is just a OK car, light years to impress me but way ahead to impress anyone driving a car in the US.
Knowing that there are a few millions (did I said millions?)cars circulating in Europe that get 60mpg plus I think the Prius comes as a secondary subject. I am not trying so sound like a dik, I am just saying that the technology is there, has always been there (turbo diesel more eficient than Hybrid), we just don't want to import them. We prefer driving SUV's with 24" that gets you 10mpg and eat triple cheese burguers, time is catching up and we are in borrowed time guys, the gas prices will continuosly raise and we really need to import the turbodiesel cars(instead of hybrids).

turbo diesel is nice, but it takes more oil to make diesel than reg gasoline. to me it would only make sense that it gets better gas mileage since it burns longer. but the US's diesel is too crappy to import euro TD cars because of how much sulfur is in it compared to europe's diesel.
my parents own a prius. The OP said they are comfortable, I would have to disagree. My *** and back get sore after about an hour in the car, even less if Im sitting in the back. Not to mention they are ugly as hell and the interior is some sorta joke.
Hell the prius can get 55mpg, honda civic hxs have been getting 40+ since 96. Best dd would be to pick up a civic hx for 5-6k and than you would really save money and actually own a decent looking car.

its pretty funny on who drives these, one guy i know from work owns a BBQ pit restaruant. full out country guy that comes in with his full cowboy out fit and hat........but then one day i saw what he drove.......A prius! haha not only to make it worse but he just bought another one.

variable geometry turbos
twincharger(suopercharger/turbo)
common rail
direct injection
It is hapening, it is available,it works.. The americans goverment must make an agresive move into this proven technology, we just should banned SUV like Ford excursions and that crap, we are completely careless when it comes to gas mileage. It is biting our a$$ very fast.
A basic and generic example. US allowed to import the 1.9TDI VW jetta (90hp). For more than a decade we got stuck with this same crappy engine while in Europe the same engine has been developed to the 110hp version, then 130, then 150 then 170hp to the point were the turbodiesel is now faster than the counterpart(GTI).
A 320 turbo diesel is faster than its counter part 320i(gasoline), we just need to agresively change forever our economy as a whole(yeah I know, I have a 7011cc Corvette).

Atleast your Z06 gets about the same as an evo with that deathly long 6th gear. I am sure driving around town really sucks though.
