I drove a 2009 Dodge Challenger today
Yes, I know the answer to that. It was a rhetorical question.
I do like the SRT-8 version of that but.... $42,390.... That's $17,600 more than the V6 Challenger SE. The mechanical differences I see are...
1) Upgrade the 3.5-Liter High-Output 24-Valve V6 MPI Engine to the 6.1-Liter SRT HEMI(R) V8 Engine
2) from 4-Speed Automatic Transmission to a 5-Speed Automatic Transmission with "autostick"
3) from 3.64 Axle Ratio to an "Anti-Spin Differential" 3.06 Axle Ratio
4) 215 tires on 17" wheels to 245 tires on 20" wheels.
The SRT8 version also gets TPMS, leather seats, Sirius stereo, and steering wheel controls... none of which makes the car faster which is what we really care about right?
Anyway.. my point is that almost $18K seem like a lot to pay for a bigger engine, different tranny, LSD, wheels and tires.. on the same car.... But maybe I'm the only one who sees it that way.

can someone edumacate me on why it seems like the American auto makers love to bring back the vintage look when every other auto makers are moving forward? is it nostalgia? ive seen the new challenger in person and was not impress. really thats all they can think of? out of ideas?

I stopped at the dealer today when I saw a white challenger with black stripes. It looks pretty good close up, not as big as I thought. It may be because its so tall or the 20" wheels. Anyway, base price was just over 29k, I thought not too bad. But after adding options such as wheels 1.5k, sun and sound 2k, auto and leather 1.5k, final price was about 35k. No freaking way! I would'nt want any of those options anyway except for maybe the leather. I wonder if they will have discounts on them in a year or two like the chargers did?
