contrary to popular belief, the hyundai genesis coupe does not have the 4B11T evo X motor in it. It has the hyundai theta engine. both engines were based off of the joint "world engine" project between chrysler, hyundai, and mitsubishi and do share some of the same parts but they are not the same engine.

This quote is from wikipedia...

"Although the basic designs of the various engines are the same, their exact specifications are individually tailored for each partner. The cylinder block and other basic structural parts of the engine were jointly developed by the GEMA companies, but the intake and exhaust manifolds, the cylinder head’s intake and exhaust ports, and other elements related to engine tuning were independently developed by Mitsubishi."

The Hyundai theta engine is rated at around 220bhp whereas the Mitsubishi 4B11T is rated at 290bhp. Another major difference is that the 4B11T evo X motor has Mivec (Variable Valve Timing) on both the intake and exhaust side. the hyundai theta engine only has variable valve timing on the intake side.

Decent looking car, but about 500 lbs too heavy for what it is. Probably won't be very good in auto-x, and way too heavy for frequent track use. Probably decent as an inexpensive drift car platform.

Because of the price, I expect this to end up as the next SRT-4: a decent, quick car that's driven almost universally by douchebags.

anyone know the 0-60 time on the 2.0T model?
i know the V6 is "under 6 seconds" which doesn't fill me with hope for the 4cyl model being very quick

There's nothing like the experience of driving an evo. I'd never trade it for anything.

its a sweet car but cmon not evo level. i predict its going to be a very popular platform. the company has done a great job at changing the image of the brand and quality of products. we compare evos to corvettes, cobras, lambos, ferraris, etc. to compare an evo to a hyundai is insulting in my opinion. like comparing an evo to a srt4. yea they can be quick but we are talking about a car that has been developed for more than 15 years. its an EVOLUTION. crazy move to trade in an evo for this car. but whatever ur $ and choice.

Okay well here is the Genesis 2.0T engine tear down

You decide, is it the same or different than the 4b11...

Engine on stand

engine o valve cover

cams

camshafts

VVT

Oil pump

oil pump

oilpan

timing cover

bottom end top

piston rod

bottom end

bottom end

Looks like 400WHP is possible with stock components.

now if i owned the Evo there is absolutely positively no possible way that i would trade in the Evo for the Genesis. But since i own the 2006 Ralliart then i might trade it in for the Genesis. but If Mitsu doesnt bring the new Ralliart in a 5 or 6 speed then i might def consider buying the 2.0T Genesis . I mean you cant go wrong for the base model your looking at paying $22,750 good bang for the buck. HKS and Rhys Millen took this car in and i read somewhere that HKS made over 500+ HP on the Genesis 2.0T i cant believe im actually saying this but if Hyundai can get me into the Genesis for the same or less monthly payment then what im paying on my 06 RA then I will def buy a Hyundai

I'd love to have a genesis coupe. But sell my IX and buy the genesis coupe? No way. I like the EVO's performance and pedigree

Its ok different than the evo RWD. Now for RWD i would rather have cobra a 98 cobra has same HP. But really i love my CR. Now once my CR is payed off maybe the 2.0 for a DD but than i can get a used VIII for that price as a DD

the 2.0t runs a 15.3 and the 3.8 runs a 14.4 according to edmunds. Therefore i don't think the either is comparable to the evo
