Drove my buddies S2000
So I've come to the conclusion that the S2000's popularity must be solely based on looks and the neato interior because i drove my future brother in law's car yesterday and that thing is slow as *****. yeah it's cool that the redline is 9,000 but the car still sucks. it didn't pull hard at all even when the Vtec kicked and the handling didn't seem all that impressive either. and by the way, i used to complain about the EVO having a noisy tranny, god damn was this thing loud when i downshifted. maybe they're awesome with a supercharger, all of the hype i've read about these cars in the magazines doesn't really make much sense to me now
My fellow EVO buddies and I were cruisng one gorgeous weekend. And this annoying S2K kept following us. The traffic was a lil heavy so it hung on. But on open road, we jsut pulled on him. Appraoching traffic, teh EVOs broke hard wit no problem, while the s2k had to veer into the shoulder to avoid hitting the car in front of him. Man, us EVOs get so much more for 30k. At a stop, the driver of the S2k told me he was stunend by the perfomrance of our EVOs. I told him, how can you doubt it and left.
i'm sure we all the that the evo has more power than the s2000, but the part about handling i'm not so sure about.. maybe it's just me, but i got a buddy that has a s2000 and i can't agree with u about that part..
It may have to do with the characteristics of having a light RWD car vs a pretty much mid-weight AWD car. I'm not saying the S2000 is better handling than the Evo, but it should outperform most other sport compacts, especially in or under its price range.
Well here's a major differnce..
When you drive an S2k its fun isn't on the highway or the straights.. but on the turns... but there is another exception...
With the Evo you can breeze through a turn with 70mph with no worry in the world and in full controll of the car.. with an S2k it's a little differnt.. go around 60 and watch the tail start to slip out.. than quickly regain controll and cruise along going 70.. you can't enjoy a s2k if you aren't willing to take that risk..ask an s2k driver.. it's an very unsure car..sure as hell gives you one adrenline rush.. but gives you a good scare too..
But strictly for the reason which you don't like the s2k in the fact that it has no power delivery.. honda redesighned the s2k with a 2.2L lowered redline to 8k i belive..making it a more "street driveable car.."

I had an S2000 for 2 years and that car is plenty fast. If you are stock, go ahead and bait one on the freeway and you'll get your *** handed to you. On the freeway, it really moves. Of course any S2000 will get smoked on the street - that is the penalty of low torque. However speed is a product of horsepower. Since the S2000 weighs so much less than an Evo, has a naturally aspirated engine and can rev so high, it has a distinct advantage if you were to roll on from 75-80 mph. Since this scenario is rarely likely (and always illegal), the Evo ends up being more fun since you can do more at lower speeds. If I had the bank to keep the S2000 and buy the Evo, I would have. However, since I could only have one car, the Evo does more for me - especially since I've modded it.
I got both and I tell ya - nothing short of bike comes close to S, there is no replacement for top down rush accompanied by whining and screaming engine. Pedals and shifter feel don't get any better, period. With suspension set ro "full hard" and 10K spring rates on the S my EVO feels like a family sedan
I do get pissed though when folks in EVOs try to race me and look at me like they know the secret and it is the EVO.
I wanna tell em "I'm one of us, I know that secret too"
