Both of them are MEAN!
Try 505hp in the USA for the Z06 and 513hp else where in the world
Try 638hp for the ZR1 in the USA(In the high 640hp elese where in the world)

Not that is a big change but it is 13hp more on the Z06.

Stock parts on a car of this level are hard to upgrade as they are so good to begin with. I bet it'll take the aftermarket community to get proper parts for the car without losing power.

It looks like they are doing just fine making power on the car. The aftermarket on this level and exotics (I don't consider the ZR1 an exotic) is definitely there and pretty quick to react. It isn't the same level of aftermarket though and you won't likely be hitting up ebay or craigslist as a source.

There's always more to be had. More aggressive/stiffer suspension, tires, bigger SC pulley, tuned for race gas, open up the exhaust, etc

There are a few Z06s in Solo1 (think time attack) and they are extremely quick. One is about 700 HP NA and is very, very fast. Not sure how they are to drive but they appear to be pretty stable, I've yet to see one go off or spin but that could be the driver.

Stock 10 sec ZR-1. Equally or maybe even more impressive:

I remember watching Tsuchiya driving one on the touge and he was saying how "scared" he was, but at the time I thought that was just typical BMI bias against American cars. From what I have heard about the ZR-1, which I haven't driven yet, is that its a lot easier to handle.
BTW - meant to reply to this sooner. The typical C6 Z06 that you see in comparison tests is older, as in the first or 2nd model years. Supposedly they are much better in more recent years as they have worked on improving the suspension in more recent years.

What makes the stock Z06 so snappy and somewhat unpredictable has been attributed to the poor OEM dampeners. They are made by Sachs but they are severely overdampened. Many replace them with custom valved Bilstein sports and the car is much better to drive. Also the 08's and up come with a better version of the Sachs I have heard too.

It will definitely happen. At some point you might have to hold out to see what becomes of the C7.

*edit - and of course the C6's will likely drop in price.
