2009 z06 ?

I am interested in an '09 Z06. What are some deals folks have found on them / where ? I seem to be seeing ~$73K online, but thought they could be found for less. Thoughts / advice ? TIA

The best deal I believe comes from www.corvetteconti.com. He sells you the car at invoice. The deal with that dealer is that he get the most allocations so he sales by large numbers. You do not have to negotiate the price, what he has is what you pay.

There are a few other dealers selling it for just a hair over invoice. The 09 Z06 are just getting ridiculouly loaded compared to the 06 model, they keep adding more and more equipment standard. The 09 comes now with side airbags on the seats which use to be part of the 2LZ package, they also have the new ECU software for the launch control and many other things.

Good luck and don't hesitate to harrass me on the PM to ask me whatever question you might have. You might call me if you need as well.

Carlos -- What are your thoughts on the Z06 ? I drove a Callaway a few months ago and was just blown away with how fast, smooth, and quiet it was....I think that car had ~700hp...Everything about the car was awesome (except the interior still looks like crap IMHO)...

Also, I too am in the same boat as you as it pertains to a new stock-like turbo...I think I am between the BBK Full and HTA Green....

Just curious, are you keeping the Evo IX or are you selling it and getting the Z06?. I have been putting a lot of miles on the Z06. I have had a 3 rd grind that went away with the clutch fluid replacement other than that the Z06 is a lot of car for the money.

If I had to start all over again, I would probably pick a used Z06(that wa smy original plan), the reason why is because typically the Z06 owners spoil their cars for the most part. Even though some people road race the car and others use it for the drag strip most of the owners will have their cars in a garage and they normally don't do shortcuts with maintenance expenses.

A 2006 Z06 can be purchased for high 30's low 40's which is a smoking deal. As per your question about the turbos? Well, I read 90-95% of all the threads regarding the turbos(HTA Green, BBKLite and BBK Full ,Tomei and now SST)

To be honest, I have been a customer of Forcedperformance for years(7 years at least) and I purchased a few turbokits from them and I can tell you that you can't go wrong with their products.

There is no much on the SST to even consider buying it yet. The tomei seems a nice turbo but on that price range it goes toe to toe with the BBK full and the HTA Green and right now all these 3 turbos are ina toe to toe competition.

Carlos -- I plan on keeping the Evo and 'building it up more' ...My plan is to have a full Buschur motor, I just need to either ship the car to Dave or find a good local shop to do the install. I may use GMG for my Evo (they primarily do Porsches), but I am reluctant to use anyone that is not a 'specialist'. http://www.gmgracing.com/home.shtml

Regarding the '06 Z06 - great advice, but I'd have to see what changes have been made since then...My plan is to have Callaway work some magic on the car - suspension, brakes, engine, so the 06' route may be the hot ticket. Thanks!

Carlos correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that GM made some steering and or suspension updates for the 2008 Z06. I believe they corrected some things that the magazine critics had taken them to task on. But if the OP is considering suspension upgrades anyway, it might be worth the savings to go ahead and pickup a pampered 06 or 07.

^^ That is right, the changes on the 08' were:

Revise steering ratio(more direct)
Softer revised rear suspension(not as stiff)
Tremec TR6060 instead of Tremec T56(which includes a short throw shifter and spring loaded return mechanism, shifter is kept in place securely)
Carbon fiberlook center console
Standard On-star(1st year free)
Standard digital compass
Standard head light daylight running light with sensor(not sure if it was standard)

In 09' they added more stuff like side airbargs and launch control and I am sure more stuff. Still a 06 is a smoking deal considering how well cared these cars are..

I almost took my car to Lingenfelte to do their 616hp or their 660hp package but found myself taking it into a different shop for a 630-640hp package. I am thinking about sending my transmission to RPM and get their level II but I think I will wait on the lcutch to go then do it. Good luck!

Changing the subject, tomorrow(Saturday 15th) there will be a massive Arizona Corvette C6 Z06 Mount Lemon drive which will be a wolrd class Corvette C6 Z06 event. We have been planning this for weeks and we are getting people from all over Arizona. We will be doing the Mount Lemmon Summit 9200ft elevation in the middle of the Arizona desert in the heart of Tucson. I will take tons of pictures for you guys, I will also do a video(can you smell teasing?) LOL

Look on www.corvetteforum.com for verification.

Carlos

Thanks Carlos and James! I wonder if I should consider a standard '06 - 08' vette since I'll be replacing the suspension, brakes, rims, etc. and adding a supercharger ...It looks like I can get a low mileage 07' for low $20's (so save ~$50K over a new z06), thoughts ?? TIA

It's the little things that made the Z06 appealing and the C6 not nearly as appealing for me. It's knowing the use of magnesium, aluminum, carbon fiber, balsa wood, hollow carpet fiber, all in the pursuit of losing weight!!

The flared fenders front and rear, dry sump, 427 aluminum motor that sits lower and farther back, bigger brakes, bigger rims, tires and still a 3080lbs curb weight are all what make the Z06 a awesome car.

Good luck either way...

As Jasil mentioned, there are alot of little things that would be different. Look at the Z06 as a package designed to work together to do alot of things right. You can spend the money to get a regular C6 close to that same point or even better in some areas, but it is always hard to make sure that everything plays nicely together. With the Z06, GM has already spent millions testing to get everything to work together. That's the problem with modding, you have to do the research and take chances with your own money. It is always possible to spend alot of money and have something that you like less than the original.
Good luck on your search.

Carlos,
Have fun on the Mount Lemon Drive. I rode a bicycle all the way up to Summerhaven when I spent a year at U of A back in 1987-88. It was a long ride up but a fun ride down. I also rode out from the East side of Tucson, out to and up Kitt Peak and back that year. Needless to say, I was in a lot better shape back then. I know the scenery will be great and the temperature drop from the bottom to the top will be much appreciated in the middle of August.
Have a blast

^^ James,

You are funny as hell... I couldn't stop laughing about your comments.. I have been there (Kwit Peak with the observatories) and Mount Lemon and I have to give you credit for climbing those two mountains. One is like one hour drive from Tucson(Ajo Way Road) the other one is an ascent to Mount Lemon that could take several hours. My hat off if you climbed to the top in a Bike.

Mount Lemon is a super popular mountain group in the middle of the sdesert and still today there are hundreds of people that go upa nd down the mountain.

Anyways, we had a big C6 Z06 drive today and I saw first hand a extra wide bodykit on a C6 Z06, this thing was just sick. He had forged rims with 6" lips matching the color of the car. On my way down I mounted my HD camcorder and filmed his car for a good 30 minutes. The video looks sick, imagine a extra wide body Kit Z06 in the twisties. It looked ridiculous because the Z06 from factory is already very wide and very low.

Take care James!
