has anyone gone from Evo to 335i, or from 335i to Evo?
well guys i love my Evo, and i really dont want to part with it. but the 335i and 335xi is VERY appealing to me. its luxery, quality, looks amazing (IMO) and has some power potential since its twin turbo 6cyl.
so im looking for opinions from people who have owned both, or atleast driven both. i know going from my 405whp Evo to a stock 335i is gonna be a huge loss in power, but im thinking if i decide to go through with this, that the Pro's of the 335 will outweigh the power factor.
all comments are appreciated!!
heres my evo by the way.....

335i's are great cars but from a fun to drive factor, they're no where near a even stock evo. I've driven both stock and chipped/tbe 335s. They can def be fast but even then, driving one everyday would really make me bored of it quick. My friend traded his EB evo ix back in 2009 for a 2007 335 coupe 6 mt. He said he missed his Evo but couldn't find another clean 9 to trade back. Now he's in a 2010 gsr.
I wouldn't trade mine for any BMW besides the New m5. Can't afford it though lol.

You won't like it if you like the Evo, my parents used to have a 335i that had 370whp and it was no where near as fun to drive, nor was it exciting. It looks ok but there is no way I would give up an Evo for one, ever.

Funny you should ask this.
My brother has a 6 spd 335i and I have the EVO. I drive his car often. With the minimal amout of mods he has, I would say it is fun to drive. I like the suspension comfort and the crusie control.
My evo is a DD and his 335i is his DD, they get driven!
We are even on acceleration and he gets WAY better gas mileage than I do.

Evo VIII - Evo IX - 335i - Evo X - 135i - Evo X
I was a confused puppy.
In short, DON'T DO IT! Evos hold their value extremely well, and yours appears to be a very nice one! It's easy after a time to get bored with what you have and want to change. I enjoyed the 335i because it's a good car to be stuck in traffic with, but the performance falls short. If you can't make the stretch to an E90/E92 M3, hang on to what you have for awhile.
Good luck.

I have a friend in Denver with a 2009 335Ci, and he's already needed to replace one of the turbo's due to failure, and he believes the other original unit is going out too, since it's noticably down on power, even with the other one already replaced. He drives it hard, but also takes the necessary warm up and cool down precautions to keep from destroying the bearings, and it still has less than 60k miles on the odometer too. Sooooo, you might want to take that into consideration.
a buddy of mine switched to the 335xi from an 05 Evo with SSL...had fuel pump issues like crazy, enough to have the car lemon'd...ended up moving away from "tuner friendly cars" and bought a 2010/11 X5d now...
modding those bimmers isnt cheap. lol...if you can afford to pay to play with the 335 then by all means go for it!
currently another friend of mine is modding his 335xi...exhaust (axleback mufflers, downpipes), twin intakes, ams fmic, synapse bov, jb4, and coolingmist meth injection...said he should have around 450 whp...all those mods im guessing probably put him in the hole like...5-6 grand. not including his cosmetic mods...
this is an old pic, he now has a cf hood, and matte black pc'd wheels...
which ever way you go with this...good luck!
btw your GG VIII MR is badass lookin. wanna sell it and ship it to WI? LOL

Ok I just recently traded my modded x for an e90 m3 sedan. I test drove the 335ix and wasn't to impressed. The fun factor with the evo just prevailed. But on a whim I bought a used cpo 08 m3 with 11000 miles. If you can make the stretch to that, then trust me you won't look back.
I can't speak about the 335, but I sold my IX for a 135i about 6 months ago and honestly haven't had any regrets. The Evo was a blast, and I still want to have another one as a weekend toy at some point. I don't think I could do a 335, since they are pretty bland IMO, but te 135 is a blast. Nodding cost is blown WAY out of proportion. I have downpipes, a tune, bigger FMIC, and intakes. On a tank of 100 octane, I make 385whp, 405 ft/lbs on a low reading Mustang dyno. Honestly, that's about $2000-2500 in mods total. Both cars are great, but as a daily, I'll keep the 135 any day. It really just depends on what your needs are though. The BMW's can be made to be pretty fast highway cars, where an Evo will murder them from a standstill, or a very low roll. Also, I consistently get 30 mpg on the highway in the BMW, where the Evo wasn't so hot in that category.
It's funny you mention this, I was in the market for one back when I bought my X. I thought either way a 2 or 4 door with a tt6 cylinder would be a cool car to have, and with the prices being all over the place I found a few that were the colors and priced where I could afford. I was also looking at e46 m3's at this time.. then a friend purchased an 06 comp package car and it broke a cam bolt in the vanos and blue up.. so that sorta narrowed it down to the 335 and evo.
I then talked to a tech at bmw and he mentioned the fuel system issues and that even after fixing them often times they seem to cause issues. He mentioned that currently they had been working on a black 335i that was supposed to be making 480hp with meth etc. that was missing underload and they couldnt seem to figure it out. That coupled with a funky rear diff that noone seems to really like, and the luxury tax swayed me away. That and I was able to get a much newer evo still under warranty for the same as an older higher miles 335i was a pretty easy sell. I like bmw's but I just cant see the 335i suiting what I like to do as well as the evo, without doing a ton of work.
