hicas is a passive four wheel steering system. a horrible version called hicas II is found on certain old 240SX's (it's where we get out LSD's from ), but super hicas has actually become popular due to it's increased reliabilty over earlier versions. the problem with hicas II is that the wheels would be out of phase with what it should be doing and prove itself to be unreliable in the long run, although i know a few people on NICO that swear they wouldn't live without it.

as far as i know, attesa is just nissan's AWD system. much like how the jdm evo's got AYC and whatnot. i haven't had a chance to drive cars equipped with adaptive AWD systems, so i can't compare them to mechanical AWD and 4WD systems that we have

Question Skyline R33 Gts

hey guys...i really need your help on this....this past weeks i have been doin some research on some car to buy,...but just not cars...i mean supercars...skylines, evos, wrx etc...
sooo i came into some website...skylines gts for sale...i was like ....those cars were like my obssession for those weeks..i am really thinking about buying one...and the better part that here in Panama you can import any car....i was researching about the specs and they are quite awesome...check them out..

NISSAN SKYLINE R33 GTS
1995 Skyline GTS25t type M. 260 hp. 5MT. 98000km. RWD White color. No accident. Points
75. Interior C. AC, SR, PS, PW, AW, SRS, ABS. Aftermarket muffler, turbo timer. FOB7800US dollars.
ok there you go...but what is really worrying me is the top speed...180 km/h..thats it....

any info on how to get a new tricked cpu, or something to reach a more responsible speed???180 km/h is pretty slow when dealing with racing on highways here in Panama....soo i really need a higher top speed!
and do you really think that car is worth it???my future happiness depends on your opinions..

i really wish to think that top speed exceeds 180 km/h,...but i talked to a Japanese guy(the owner of the skylines) and keeps telling me that at 180 km/h the car keeps that speed......

keep remembering that it is a GTS not a GTR (those are over my budget)

still...180 km/h is due to the CPU or transmission?????still..any more info on a tricked out cpu???

For those who still think my skyline knowledge is weak I have participated in a SKYLINE motor SWAP recently to see for myself how the car is built!

I will admit the Drive train is EXCELLENT!!!!! The block is very strong. I still feel the motor is inefficient but based on how the motor is built but the inefficiency is also a margin of safety. I have pictures of the skyline, the motor, the Skyline with the motor out, the GT-R AWD drive train, and the new motor that went in! I also worked on a Integra type-r RHD motor swap.

I have driven many cars. These cars include, skyline gtr RHD, EVO, STI, Dodge Daytona turbo, Sterling, Renault Cleo, GTI, M3, Corvette, Porsche 911, 350Z, WRX, Eclipse GST, Mustang V8-V6, SS chevelle, Older Lambo, CRX with B18 motor swap + turbo + NOZ, Turbo Mirage, S2000, S2000 with supercharger+ NOZ, and a lot of other cars like Escalade and motorcycles but I only want to mention cars related to the ones you want.

Excellent Skyline alternatives: EVO, STI, New AWD G35, Audi S4, AWD 911 Porsche, AWD lambo, Modded WRX, Modded GSX eclipse, Audi S8, New volvo S60 300 HP AWD.

Reasons not to buy a skyline

1. There is no warranty with an imported skyline!!!!!!!!!

2. New skyline in 2006. The Last generation of skylines have an older engine design which feature 2 turbos on a 6 cylinder rated at 280 crank. The new skyline will feature the 350z block which puts out 280 crank all motor.

3. Styling of the skyline is 90's so you are paying a lot of money for an old car that few in the public understand.

4. STOCK Evo and STi out handles stock skylines on a track. They are also faster in 0-60 and 1/4 mile http:www.motortrend.com Evo has a 160 MPH top speed if you go past redline.

5. Evo has a better reputation in Japan because of the 4 rally wins. I just got back from Singapore, Japan and Hong Kong.

6. The skyline is overrated because In the US we cannot get the skyline so our desire increases! In Japan they lust over our V8 engines. Japan has an entire scene that follows the US sport compact trend and they love Domestic spec and made parts!

Please think about how you were influenced to like this skyline car so much. There are a lot of cars in the US already available at a great price BRAND NEW 2004 with WARRANTY!

If you are buying that white skyline in the picture.... Thats really ugly and looks out of date like a 5.0 Mustang.

Think about girls too. 99% of girls do not know what a skyline is nor do they care!

Nissan boy to the rescue!

1: True, no warranty, but it's also an 8 year old car. Show me an 8 year old car still under warranty?

2: Talk to any Nissan enthusiast, and most will want the inline 6 over the V6 (plus we're not sure if it'll be a V6 or a V8. nissan's not giving any information out right now). The inline 6 is just too damned silky smooth. He's also looking at a GTS. It's the RWD single turbo version of the RB engine. It also comes with .1 less liter displacement. RB25DET as opposed to an RB26DETT.

3: Styling is very subjective. What you find ugly, I find attractive. The R33 is an excellent design all around, although I still prefer the sleeker look of the R34 front and staggered tail lights.

4: The skyline was designed to be a daily driver/track mobile. It was never meant to dominate like the GT-R did. Take a RWD car, throw a heavy engine out over the front wheels and then ask me why it doesn't want to handle very well. Basic weight ratio doesn't work in the skyline's favor when it's in a RWD config. Look at any detroit pig iron. especially the old big blocks. Even my dad's '01 mustang GT handles like a turtle on flypaper.

5: Skyline has a longer lineage. It dates back to the '60s when it was being built by Prince. While I would take an Evo or an STi over a skyline GTS-t such as the one in question, I woudl take a GT-R any day of the week before taking an Evo or an STi. You also have to remember how stout that cast iron Nissan block is over the aluminum block from Mitsubishi.

6: We do have the skyline. the Infiniti G35 is our version of the skyline. In fact, it's what the current generation of skyline is. We just don't have a new generation of GT-R yet. Don't get Sport Compact confused with V8's. Most cars powered by V8's are not compact, and don't fit the criteria set by the industry to be a sport compact. In fact, the Sport Compact industry primarily comes from Japan with the US auto makers finally getting their heads into the game. I do admit that a few Japanese enjoy our muscle cars, but they don't work well in japan. bad fuel economy (hope you remember what the price of gas while you were in Japan). I know many more Japanese that would stick with domestic (try 98% of the population) than buy an american import. Our muscle cars really do lose a lot due to the mass they have the push. The 4 bangers we rely on are much more efficient than small block V8s. Pull up some basic marketing data, and you will find out that even in the foreign import scene in Japan, the Americans have very small market share. Their love of foreign imports lies in German made cars.

The price of the car is 7800 bucks. Show me a brand new car going for that less. I'm assuming that the importer is picking up the cost of shipping since its FOB. Charlie is going to take ownership of the product only when it hits the port of destination.

You also have to remember that Charlie lives in Panama, not in America. So things are very different for him. He has access to cars that we don't but it might be harder for him to gain access to performance parts.

Charlie. I don't know many places that specialize in RB series parts, but Nissan used a parts bin strategy back in the early 90's and you will find that parts from the Silvia will fit onto the R33 chassis. Such as suspension components (not sure about dampers, but I', sure that the S14 control rods should match) Go on over to www.nissaninfiniticlub.com and browse around in the RB section to get an idea of what the aftermarket looks like for the skyline.

Girls don't know what 99% of the cars are out there anyways. I have a 240SX, and no one really knows what it is. They like the fact that it looks good and it's a convertable. Just because someone doesn't know what kind of car you have doesn't mean they're not gonna like it. I used to drive a '90 Ford Tempo, and while it wasn't a chick magnet, I had plenty of girls say it was a nice looking car.

btw, CarPhoto, don't confuse the Skyline with the GT-R. You got the skyline and the GT-R confused in your second point. Go to www.nissan.co.jp and you'll see the skyline is still in production with a VQ35DET, same engine in the 350Z (Fairlady) and it's turbocharged.
