My Latest Daily Driver... VW Content

Due to my daily commute my Evo X is basically a garage queen. In the time I have had this car, I have gone through four daily drivers... Most recently a 2011 Ford Fiesta.. Great car, but was looking for something a little more...

It was a tough search since I wanted something fun, with decent gas mileage and not a "camcord" or similar.

I opted this time around for a CPO'd 2010 VW GTI. I recently began having issues with my left knee, so I opted for the DSG (automated autotragic)... I hope I don't regret it. I still have the Evo, which has a proper transmission.

The car has a pretty decent ride. Handles surprisingly well for a FWD hatch. Great combo of being peppy, decent gas mileage and good looks overall. It has the base seats that support rather well. The steering wheel is amazing! Hopefully I don't run into any issues with electrical or the transmission. The DSG shifts very quickly, but is sloppy when rolling to a stop and accelerating.

Never really saw myself in a VW... No flat brimmed sideways cap or fanboy here I plan on keeping it semi-stock.

Pics after a wash & detail:

I guess you can say I like white

White always look right haha. Your VW looks good dude. I'm actually curious about the Ford Fiesta though. How is the ride? Spacious? I know its small, but i've never been in one. Its a car i'm interested for a daily. Thanks!

I'm considering doing the exact same thing. My Evo is not something I can drive everyday.
I'm constantly playing with the idea of picking this up: http://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-s...archRadius=300

Give me some more details on your driving impressions if you can. You said the trans isn't great stopping, my car may see a heavy traffic at times, would it be unpleasant to drive in??

The Fiesta was actually a great daily driver. The 5 speed was very crisp and handling was decent. I am only around 5'8" and sat very comfortably. I fit someone over 6'3" in the front passenger seat (very uncomfortably ). The problem is the back seat. You can fit small adults back there, but not anything more. Its actually roomier than lets say an Eclipse or 4th gen Camaro SS. The features in the car are next to none in its class.

I beat the crap out of the car and still averaged 36 mpgs. It was a peppy 120 hp and the intake that I installed really bought it to life. Aftermarket support is there, but is lacking. Reliability wise, I only put 24,000 miles in the year that I had it... but they were trouble free.

The only reason I sold mine was that I wanted an automatic for a daily driver and at times for work, etc. I need to fit more than one other passenger in my car.

I opted for the sedan. I took many pics when I sold the car: Pics

So far so good. I've had the car for just over 2 weeks. Handling wise, the car is great. Interior has a nice fit and finish. Everything has a substantial feel to it. Basically the anti-mitsubishi

The transmission is quirky. It appears to be hit or miss. Personally on mine when the car is hot or if I am driving a bit "briskly", it tends lurch a bit when it stops. Also, when taking off it seems to be a bit lost finding first gear. Its an automated trans, so in some ways they are all like this. Mine may have an underlying problem. Im told there is a software update to fix. Definitely test drive the car first. Shifts are quick! "Sport" mode is a bit ridiculous with its shift points. I was surprised as to how quick 200 hp feels in this car.

Gas mileage wise, if you keep off boost you will see 30+ mpg on highway. Its a lot easier to do on this car, then lets say the Evo

I would recommend getting something CPO'd or with a warranty still attached. At least some sort of initial warranty. Honestly the CPO process is stupid and expensive. It would be cheaper to get a longer aftermarket warranty. I've heard that most of the DSG transmissions have extended warranties due to initial issues. I still have to look into this.

The price on the GTI in the ad looks to be very good, especially with the autobahn package. I'm sure there is room for negotiation. I think that exact GTI was on my list when I was looking for them.

I'm in Morristown or Hopatcong areas in NW New Jersey. If you want to check out my car, let me know.

Over time I kind of regretted getting the sedan, but for me it was more versatile due to the cavernous trunk and was actually slightly less expensive than the hatch.
