Evo or Skyline?
Skyline would be awesome to have. But theres no way I'd daily ot. But since youre getting a tahoe, I'd go for the skyline. It just depends what you want the car for? Cruising, shows, racing?
Good luck dude.
Good luck dude.

Buy the Nissan. It's not like you're going to drive it, and you'll gain a whole lot of cred on the forums.

I'd advise you to go for the Evo man, at 20 yrs old it's already a dream. the Evo is more practical also. either way you won't be pulling chicks with either car. Chicks hate my evo. According to them it's "uncomfortable, noisy and bumpy" much less a 34 yr old car.
The nissan sounds like an enormous headache unless you are making enough money to buy your way through sourcing/fabing parts. Personally I can't stand prolonged downtime where the car is inoperable. Maybe you see things differently, but in your position I'd go with the evo. Just be careful with that salvaged title, some insurance companies won't insure salvage titles and those that do might charge you considerable amounts of money especially given your age. Goodluck!
Thanks for all the opinions, i read every single one but for now i think i gonna stick to driving my N/A 300zx while I make up my mind and hear more opinions.
The reason i decided to ask you guys was because, you are all owners of an evo and know the car much more than I would. And thought that you guys have prob given getting another car a thought.
I also understand that they are completely different, not only in age but ...everything. But i didn't really have many plans for the evo since i wanted to keep it mostly smog legal here in CA (all i had planned for the engine was a halman manual boost controller, walbro 255lph, Injen Intake w/full intercooler piping, and the RRE Stealth Catback with a FFTec tune....so nothing crazy). And honestly think id keep the skyline stock for a while. The evo would be my daily driver while the skyline would be a weekend cruiser, car to take to meets to show off type of thing haha. If i got the skyline, like i said id get a cheap mid-late 90's Tahoe for trips to the mountain and daily driving.
The other point i wanted to touch on, is yes, i am only 20 and that is pretty young. Yes an Evo would prob. suit me more but i just have a thing for classic jdm cars. And like i mentioned earlier, i didn't have any crazy plans for the evo, its not like i was gonna track it or anything, just a daily driver. And i started out driving a 1979 Pontiac Trans Am. So i am used to interesting noises, leaks from the windows on a rainy day, finding parts for older cars, and stubborn problems.
Id also like to mention that my dad is a mechanic so i would have help on thing, i wont be doing this on my own.
I don't mean to sound as if i am trying to justify that the skyline is what i want to get by stating these points because i know the final decision is mine but i just like to hear other's opinions. The thing is if i decide to go with evo, i might be able to go get it this weekend, while if i decide to go with the skyline, id prob. wait another year from now to get maybe around $25,000 cash saved up so I could take care of everything. And about the importers in question, i was thinking of either JDM Legends (preferably) or Internationale Vehicle Importers. I have already emailed both with some questions regarding the process and some stuff i wasn't too sure about and have gotten a response from IVI. While i wait for a email back from JDM Legends, any more opinions would be greatly appreciated.
Sorry for the wall of text.

You really can't budget a skyline.... i mean it's ***** to the wall why else get a Skyline.... i mean saying the names sounds nice i had a 1994 Skyline and got rid of it 2 weeks later.... didn't have the time to fool with it... there is alot that goes in to those cars so, make sure you got your ducks in a row before you jump in to a big platform like that, and have simple replacement parts on hand b/c of the time it takes to ship from Japan, not like they carry a head light buld for a skyline at autozone ya know.... Evo is a better decision, all around better car and it will last! Insurace will be cheaper than a 74 Skyline espically a true 100% JDM with out the gauge cluster mod that you have to do.

Hey, I think it's cool that you like the classics, and you could perform some mighty works with that 1979 Firechicken (if you didn't live in CA....)
Anyway, consider your budget: whether you can afford get parts for the Skyline, whether parts are readily available where you live, and make sure your insurance company knows what it is getting into, even if it costs you more up front.
You don't want to get into a wreck and your insurance company bails on you, claiming that they didn't know that this was a JDM import...

Not a GTR. He wants a antique.
Good luck. The Skyline would be a stupid decision IMO. When I was growing up my dad was into to Datsun's. He had a 5120 tricked out. I have been looking for a stock one for him for the last few years and I realized I don't have the time, knowledge or tools to build something from the ground up for him. So I'll wait until someone sells their project car and scoop it up.

The first car I bought with my own money was a 1973 Corvette Stingray that I worked to restore myself on a budget. I learned a lot with that car and I really did love it. That being said, it was slow, dangerous, and I never saw a single dime I invested in the car back. If you have the option to buy what is arguably one of the best performance platforms of the last couple decades instead I'd recommend sticking with the Evo. A vintage Skyline is a project that will entail a ludicrous amount of money and labor.
