The vintage skyline he wants is exempt from the importation laws because its over 25 years old.
Yeah, and to think, just 2 more years and people will be able to start importing the R32's (1989) and 4 years after that the R33's (1993)!!!

I guess time flies.

if it isnt a daily driver id go skyline... if you have the time, money, tools, and dedication that thing could be one badass weekend warrior that you NEVER see around here. an evo is awesome for any situation you put it in (track, dd, weekend) but that skyline is a whole different class. they are worlds apart from each other.

it all comes down to you man

From experience, I'd say avoid the car that needs the most work. IE:Skyline. The evo is an awesome driver right out of the box. Stuntin' is not as cool as it seems.

In a couple years the evo will not be worth much. Too many people have hacked them up , put junk parts on them. Hell even traded them in to dealerships with 4g64 bottom ends. They are being turned into dsm's and Hondas. Head from this evo, block from an eclipse, tranny from a gsr in a mr. Catch my drift? All original, now thats worth some money for an evo.

So with supply not there because of the above statements, it becomes all that more difficult to find a clean non-molested example. that usually will make prices for the clean ones command a higher asking price. Remember, there werent a whole crap ton brought to the states, and the more the price drops, the more the younger crowd gets ahold of them a crashes/molests them. In time i bet the prices will either hover around a certain price point, or very slightly increase. Maybe. Or this is just a horrible attempt at self justification of my car's worth. Haha

Yeah, I hear that! I was interested in getting an R32 GT-R but I dont think I will actually go through with it. When they become "legal" here, I dont know if there will be an actual demand to have them. They will be 25 years old, and parts will be hard to come by for them ya know?

What exactly are you getting at? If the evo has the 4g64 block for a build purpose and its done right, what exactly is the problem? I disagree with the Honda statement you made, because I NEVER see any quad-toned, steelie rockin, paint sticker bombed, dumped on "tokiko's", s**t box Evo's. In Arizona anyways. Most Honda kids cant afford Evos because you have to PAY TO PLAY with an Evo. A clutch job with a decent clutch is $1000+ if you're not doing it yourself. And a tune is usually $400-550 if its on the dyno. Most "Honda kids" are looking for a sweet chipped PR3 ECU brah. But then again I could be wrong.

The older skylines yeah sure they are vintage but they can be stolen very easily. My 73 240z can be started, and opened with my LANCER key. And the r32's are cheap, kids are going to get ahold of those and blow those up left and right because they have no idea how to properly maintain a car like that.

Nothing wrong with the swap, just in it not being the correct block for the car. Keeping the value up should be the evo communities goal. That's what went wrong with the evo community. We didn't stick together like the nsx and supra guys do. They stuck together and kept the value up on them. Evo's are going at the auctions now for 5k and up. Thats horrible! .

Evo as daily and skyline as a weekend car.
Wait a few years to afford it.
I love classic cars. Just got myself a porsche 930 and I love it.

coming from a person who has driving a "unique" and modern car, its cool to be noticed, and the compliments never cease.

However you will run into parts nightmares with a 72 skyline. The market demand is not viable and its tough to get what you want without paying a leg for it.

Get a decent evo that you can build as your skills/wallet grows. I think you would be much happier at age 20 with an evo than a skyline.

I believe he's going with the evo, and I would say this is the smarter choice. I too can appreciate a timeless skyline, but what it boils down to really is spending all that money worth not even driving the car? In my opinion it is not. I had payments on my evo for a year when it only drove for about 3 weeks. Awesome cars but you must search through all the garbage to find a gem.

ask yourself which you like more:

gawking attention in parking lots from other pre (maybe a few post) pubescent boys, and maybe a girl per ever 2-300 guys...

or

driving and passing cars much more expensive than yours at the track
