Evo X vs GT500
Lets see this is more of an opinion as I will always be biased towards the evo but here i go as impartial as I can
Why Evo vs Ford my 10 reasons:
1) AWD - Traction no matter what condition you are in
2) 4 doors... I call this a plus since you can take friends for joy rides without killing your passengers on having them hunch in the back.
3) Easy to mod both suspension wise and engine wise to make it an excellent car.
4) Holds its value a lot better than a domestic.
5) Out of the box its a good track car, no need to do crazy upgrades to make it a good track car.
6) My opinion the new mustang is ugly as sin. but I guess how good it looks its in the eye of the beholder.
7) you can increase power on the car without greatly affecting the handling.
8) If you are a newbie on the track this car has a lot of "computing power" to get you out of trouble.
9) With all the bells and whistles off, this car is still very forgiving if you make a drivers mistake.
10) its a TURBO rally car
yeah thats a good reason lol
Mustang
1) Don't have to run match set of tires.
2) You can easily upgrade the power of the motor with simple bolts and make some great power.
3) A lot of aftermarket support.
4) Cheaper aftermarket parts than the evo
5) Easy to Tune and a lot of tuners that can tune domestics
6) RWD can do some crazy burn outs and drift
7) Better warranty support from factory
8) Man I am running out of reasons , I can't be that impartial lol
9) Nicer interior? ( honestly I don't know , I kinda hated how uncomfortable I was in the 500 , It felt like I was sitting crooked half the time)
10) A lot bigger fan community than the evo ( lets be honest guys, the evo community is small compared to the mustang guys)

Like everyone said, they're different types of cars. If you like smoky burnouts, then the GT500 is the car for you. If you still enjoy flying around Soquel-San Jose Rd or Hwy. 9 at speed in the wet, then forget about the Ford. I have a 07 Z06 along with the Evo, and although the Z06 is supposed to be a "track ready" car, on typical roads around our area, you can't put the power down on that thing. The Evo is always a pleasure to drive, no matter what the weather and/or road conditions. The pony car, be it a Z06 or a GT500, will make you sweat and get you all nervous any time you're trying to get the most out of it on public roads, specially if the roads are not billiard table smooth.
I've driven an '11 GT500, and a '13 5.0, and both make the X look like a little toy car.
The new '13 GT500 would blow the Evo out of the water in every performance aspect.
You're talking a car that runs 11s@125+ vs a car that runs mid 13s@103mph.
660hp vs 290hp.
Mod for mod, GT500 takes the cake. Bolt-ons alone are capable of 9s@140mph. You could never get an X to run even close to that and still be streetable.

how about actual track figures ...
also your talking about modding for straight line performance, I think the op is looking for both 1/4 mile and actual circuit/autox type racing.
A new gt500 with bolt ons (intake, exhaust, pulley, tune) just put down 707 rwhp 745 ft lbs.
Stock blower, stock motor. I think it's 93 octane but I just asked to double check.
The cars are in a different league and do different things.
Oh and with markup the gt500 also costs $30k more than my base model. So you need to ask yourself how much do you want to spend on a car.

Yeah the GT500 will smoke an Evo on any circuit or track also.
Even the 5.0 outclasses the Evo X.
Its just not in the same playing field anymore.
The only thing the Evo has on the 5.0 is handling, everything else goes to the 5.0
The GT500/Boss are just a wash, Evo doesn't compare.
I was skeptic until I drove them, they honestly make the Evo look like a toy car.
I can't even imagine what the '13 GT500 is like.
Markup isn't not $30k everywhere either, only idiots would pay that. I have seen them go MSRP at my local dealer, I have two friends who work there. I'm trying to get a test drive in a '13 GT500, except they are all special orders for the most part.
A better comparison would be evo x vs stang gt or gtr vs gt500. I've owned a gt500 before and it was really fast and loads of fun to drive and mentioned before with a few mods you are putting crazy horsepower down. Modded vs modded awd ftw ESP in higher hp applications.
'13 GT500 all the way. It is leagues beyond the Evo. Also, lets be honest here, most of your "racing" is going to be from stop light to stop light or a 60 roll on the highway. If you have the means you should definitely get one.
yeah i wouldnt personally own a ford mustang. But I do have to give it up to the new mustangs they are so fast and great value ! Even the Boss 302 is ridiculously good. Love every part of the mustang minus live axle
On a perfect road with a good driver the mustang would keep up with an evo x on a road course. The evo would be easier to control and be more forgiving innone ideal conditions. You can get more horsepower out of the mustang but the more u get the harder to get the rear to stay set in a corner and not lose control. It depends if u want to go fast in a straight line or be able to drive in as fast as u can into any corner without fear of a wreak. I personally don't like mustangs cuz they are the Honda civic of the domestic world.

A GT500, BOSS 302, or some of the other specialty mustangs certainly do not fall in the "honda civic" category of the domestic world.
A common theme I am seeing among posts in favor of the EVO is the idea that the EVO would be better on less than perfect roads or more predictable. Maybe it is just me, but for a weekend car (which is what the op is talking about) I would rather have a crazy high HP/TQ "unpredictable car. Weekend cars aren't meant to be civil. Half the fun is taking it out for the weekend and enjoying the fact that the car is NUTS!
