Evo X vs GT500
so have you gotten the circuit numbers vs an EVO yet?
I really want to check and see how "badly" the 500 spanks the evo around a circuit track.
HP is not everything.. Japanese automakers do a balance of power and suspension , hence why the RX-8 was such a good track car.. A lot people said it would be spanked by everything , look again.
The OP wants balanced vehicle not 1/4 mile machine.

They handle very well now.
And look check VIR lightening lap, both the 5.0 and GT500 beat the Evo X by a considerable margin.
GT500 smokes it. That is also only the '11 GT500, the '13 packs over 100 more HP, and revised suspension.

It also seems the OP and several posters in this thread are mistaking "handling" for "ability to go around a track quickly". Yes, a GT500 will obviously go around a track quicker then an Evo. Even a Mustang GT would depending on the track. A C 63 AMG will also go around some tracks quicker then a stock Evo, as would almost any 500+ hp high power car. Of all the cars I mentioned, I think the Evo handles head and shoulders above them. If you want to reference things like the lightning lap, check out the corner entrance and exit speeds - that is a true measure of driver confidence in the corners. Evo beats most of them hands down.
Ok I am going to eat it
I did my own research :

Many of you guys act like its the end all be all. There are tons of cars that handle better.
Corner speeds are probably very close between the Mustang and Evo.
Look at my username, I'm a big fan of the Evo. I just realize its short comings, and I realize other cars are faster, handle better, and put up better track times.

Cars like the Mustang are polar opposites in a lot of ways. They are muscle cars. The C63 AMG is a muscle car. They are a completely different approach to performance and for many people, those types of cars are more fun and handle better for their style of driving. What's the difference between a car that "feels like" it handles better and a car that does handle better? Nothing, a car is all about the feeling it gives the driver.
I don't hate on any of these cars, they are different cars for different purposes, but like I said, if I had to choose all over again it would be the Evo.
Do you know how much it costs to make an Evo have 1000hp?
Don't fool yourself. If you're going for power then displacement always wins.
The GT500 is a monster. I'd buy one over an Evo. I've even been looking at purchasing one once my Evo payment is done.
I don't think it'd be a great auto-x car... more suited for larger tracks. It hands down will beat the Evo in $/performance ratio. It is cheap to make our cars quick. It's stupid expensive to make them fast without blowing up.

I had a fully built dsm. The gt500 is so much more fun. The gt500 might not be the best auto-x car but it will still be ****loads of fun. Not ti mention it will make over 700whp and the only durability concern would be a $700 driveshaft.
If the gt500 is in the budget, go for it. It is an incredible car.

You know how the 5.0 beat the Evo by like 2 seconds? Yeah, here's the stats on that..... Not surprisingly the journalists didn't exactly point it out.
The Evo was only 74lbs lighter than the Mustang 5.0 and had a whopping 121hp less, yet ran within 2 seconds! Holy Cow!
How many times does a car within less than 100lbs difference, down 121 horsepower, come within 2 seconds of another car? Well it's not horsepower..... perhaps it's handling..
All the cavemen saw was a chance to thump their chest and say "The Mustang Won!". I saw a crazy difference in power, yet similar times..... a nice golf clap for the Evo even though no one else was paying attention.
I would bet real money that if you gave each car an additional 50hp and ran them around the same course again, the 5.0 would not win, and would not show as much of a gain in lap times.
The Evo is just begging for power. The 5.0 has 121 more ponies and can't seem to make use of it to pass a similar weighted car.
Amen. What's funny about the lightning lap is how the numbers really praise the Evo.

Its just funny, if a car is faster than the Evo everyone gets all insecure and has to make it known how the Evo "handles way better", and that is the only thing that matters, but when compared to a better handling slower car, everyone will get all insecure and claim "oh well my Evo is way faster" E.G 5.0 Mustang, and BRZ.
I'm not sure about you guys, but for street driving I'll gladly take a loss in handling for better acceleration, not saying I want a car that can't turn either. How often can you push the limit of your Evo without risking your life or others? You can use 500whp everyday and still keep it safe just pulling through a few gears.
Track is a different story though, but the majority of us buy these cars to use on the street.
Also you guys need to drive some other cars, I have a modded suspension Evo, and I've driven several cars that handle considerably better.

The Mustangs heart has always been at the drag strip. Sure the performance of the new Shelby boasts some impressive lateral G's but the handling characteristics on a vehicle such as the EVO will satisfy your desire to autocross. As a daily driver I would recommend the EVO vs. The mustang. I just got rid of my 5.0 and the live axle, while it was good, isn't good enough in a curve with bumps...or any surface with bumps and they have a tendency to kick out easily. The evo is more practical in the long run due to four doors and not having to worry about traction at every thought of hitting the gas. Its a great platform to start with. A factory X with a drop in filter and a good tune is capable of running as fast as 12.2s in the quarter. There's your low 12 seconds you asked for...throw in a good Turbo back, cold air, hard piping, and an inter cooler and your in the 11s easily. It does come down to what your specifically looking for. Ford has some impressive tech in their cars but the evo does have available options. I'd go with the EVO coming from the Mustang world its a whole lot more fun to drive...
here is my 2 cents
buy an 07 GT500 they run between $25-30K
With 2-3K in extras you will have a beast.
I drove a gt500 with exhaust pully and retune and the car made 600WHP
great car that you can enjoy and same some bank as well.

I have a buddy with a modded (big blower, drag radials, bolt-ons)
gt500 (made 690whp spinning on the dyno) it ran a 60mph roll against a full weight Evo 8 (bolt-ons, gt3065 making 430whp on a mustang dyno) and it wasn't until 130-140mph until the gt500 started to pull away...
