Evo X vs GT500
I'd say go for it if the GT500 is practical for you. 2 door vs sedan would be a major point for me.
Also, RWD vs AWD, do you live in areas with snow? If you do, that much HP on a car with RWD will suck in the snow, no matter what tires you put on it.
I would love to get a mustang, but the single fact that everyone and their mothers have one is really deterring. I see at least 15 mustangs or more a day, while only seeing 1 other evo every month.

My user name reflects that I love my car, but I'm not dumb enough to compare it to a GT500 in any performance aspect. Maybe it can stack up against a 5.0 and ill admit that, but for my needs a 5.0 is a better value.
Would I trade my Evo for one? Maybe I'm not sure.
Sorry I offended all of you die hards.
I will address you other post later when I'm a comp, I'm currently mobile.
I own both...(also had an STi) so here are my $.02
My Evo X is Cobb AP Stage 2, Tomei test pipe, exhaust and drop-in filter. I THINK it puts down just a little over 300hp at the wheels, I'm not sure (don't really care, will explain why I don't). It is my DD, I average ~18-19 Mpg consistently. 70% hwy and the rest local.
My '09 GT500 has 640whp (yea you read that right). It has all Ford factory aftermarket parts on it (ECU, suspension mods, and the best part, exhaust). GT 500 was my DD for about 6 months. I averaged 13 mpg.
Comparison of both:
DD: EVO X wins hands down. Compared to the GT500, it is MUCH more agile, has a LOT of traction and it has PLENTY of power to go around on city streets. 300hp is just about usable power on the streets. You don't need to go 120mph on the hwy. Forget about driving the GT500 in snow.
Drag: Honestly for what it's worth, EVO demands respect. It will not be as fast as the GT500 stock to stock, but with some mods you can get very close to the GT500.
GT500 is porky. It has all the power you ever need (and more) but the car does not have proper suspension to translate all the power to the ground. I can't tell you how many times I just spin the size 305 rear tires. It even chirps in reverse. With all that said, I still love the GT500. The sound is toxic, and highway acceleration is unbelievable. It is a thrill to drive when you don't have to turn much lol.
Either way, in my opinion, stick with the EVO. If you must have a pony car, my advise is look into a Z06. That's a different animal.

Not that different. The Z06 is big, wide, and can still be a handful when you disable ASC/TC. But it's lighter than the Ford, more aerodynamic (honest 200+ mph car with just simple mods like intake, exhaust and a tune), and if you get one with the magnetic ride suspension, it will be more compliant on regular roads. And the brakes are phenomenal, whether you get the optional carbon-ceramic setup or not.
Interesting. I have never driven one or sat in one, but based on many reviews and tests, folks RAVE about Z06 being one of the best super car performance money can buy. I'm a big fan of American muscle with sophisticated suspension (Z06, ZR1)...but in my opinion GT500 makes the best noise.

LOL wut? Just had a cursory check of ebay completed auctions and it isn't even close. Used Evo X still fetch over 30 grand. Considering people frequently get thousands off MSRP that's hardly any depreciation at all. Similar aged GT500's on the other hand sell for tens of thousands of less and people pay generally pay very close to MSRP for those - that's a huge difference and a real factor in the cost of owning both vehicles.
These are actual completed auctions on ebay so they are what the cars really go for. Having a much more common car is going to mean a harder depreciation hit.
Regardless I'm not sure of your point in this thread. It seems you have a chip on your shoulder and are mocking people who are passionate about their cars. Yes, it's an Evo forum, and we all love the Evo. If we didn't we wouldn't have spent tens of thousands of dollars on owning one. I think your assumption that no one here can appreciate other kinds of cars is a bit naive. Of course people understand that other cars have their own appeal, but for most of us, we choose differently, that's all.
Cheers

Cobra was significantly cheaper though and still a lot of fun....
I was pretty hardcore about weight reduction with that car. I had removed literally *everything* and was already shaving bolts and getting crazy with it. I had it down to mid 2700lbs with a full tank of gas without changing the K member or gutting the engine bay. I used a string tied to the metal door frame to close the door. My window switches were zip tied to the metal by the door handle.

Compared to the "alertness" that was required to daily drive a car like that, I really enjoy my X now and would never go back. Today was rainy all day here in Michigan. I had a blast going to work, a blast going to lunch, and didn't sweat an inch. With my Cobra this would have been considered a "ruined" day with regards to shenanigans in the car.....
I've never been a v8 guy so of course IMO i say the X. I havent seen someone that bought a mustang to mod it etc down here. Its all old farts that think their getting the king of the road. I've called out a guy here who brags about walking this and that in his gt500 ('10 or '11) and he wouldnt do it. Mind this was in my old SRT 4 only making 357/427.. Ive ridden in one yeah their quick. But I love having the whole package... handling, good looks, awd, 4 doors (more ****** DUH) and a car that can pull off some quick numbers in a straight line. The evo can do all of that. While like others said yes the mustang is faster heads up 1/4 mile, but id rather have a car I can take to any event and have a blast in.
Evo. All Day. Everyday.
I'd rather buy an overpriced DC2 before I spend any money on an American car, let alone a Crustang.
You're on an Evo forum...what kind of answers were you expecting?
