Stock to stock, straight line acceleration, STI>EVO

The torque is just all there on the STI

stock to stock at higher speeds, STi might be little faster...
but still it really depends on the driver too...

a stock sti has around 30 more hp than a stock evo...that pretty much explains everything

The torque is what really makes the STI take the EVO.

Yup, the STi is better than the evo on straightline racing. No question about it. You can't really beat a 2.5l engine with a 2.0l engine and about the same kind of engine parts. The only time I've beaten an STi is when he bogged on the launch.

Yea riding in my buddies STI the one thing that stood out was the kick-you-in-the-nards torque feeling

Oh that and the uncomfortable seats

STi will eat up an evo stock, but not too badly. Modded is a different story .

yup I feel the same way, the power is much more immediate in the sti, seats are crappy but I like the addition of the dccd which allows the driver to spin the rear wheels(pretty f***** cool). What I didn't agree with my bud was when he said that the evo had looser steering especially at highway speeds.

I wouldn't say eat up, but the STi should pull a little bit more depending on the drivers, of course.

EVO is made for mod.
STI is made for keeping stock, due the freaking tiny turbo.

you got that?

I second that, most modified evo's have the stock turbos along with 300-350whp range (depending on the mods)

Sti engines are still iffy but I know the vishnu stage1 is pretty wicked on the sti. Those are nasty little buggers. My puny 300 ft-lbs looks wimpy against the 370-380ft-lb they are making. i.e. 220 vs. 270 ft-lb on dyno dynamics.

Like most things, the size of the turbo in the STi is as equally matched to the car, as the evo's. Think about it. The evo is at 19 psi stock. Everyone on this board generally agrees that 23 psi is the most you should mod to before getting turbo upgrade, that allows you about 4 psi increase over stock.
The STi is 14.5 psi stock and can handle around 19 or so, again an increase of about 4 psi.
