Fact of the matter is... I like evo's, I like SRT-4's, I like seriously themed car enthusiast forums, I don't, however, like elitists who think their car is the greatest EVAR! accept that the car is faster and move on.
A stock Evo runs 13.6 @ 101mph. pg 46 Car & Driver June 2003

Go look in pg 68 of Car & Driver. Shiv's mildly modified Evo runs 13.0 @ 106mph. Sept 2003

Elitist no. Trying to get you to stop spewing misinformation yes. As stated before :

Simmer down.. You're gonna pop a gasket.

Racing a car voids the warranty - you're contradicting yourself in the same sentence.

By the way the Neon is a nice car and a good deal, too bad so many owners and advocates think they have the "greatest car EVAR!"

Like Mister2zx3 says, "simmer down, you are gonna blow a gasket"

Nobody with any sense is going to put down the SRT-4. It's a great car for what it is, but it's no EVO. The extra 10 grand is not spent to get a faster 1/4 mile car..... You either don't know what the EVO is or you just want to stir up stuff and blow smoke.
If you want to get down to a 1/4 mile pissing contest, a huge number of cars with a 50 hp shot will destroy that SRT-4 (and any stock EVO). That's not the point. If I wanted a SRT-4, I would have bought one.... I wanted an EVO, so I paid my extra $10K for it and I'm very happy with it.

Yeah they sure do.

SRT-4s run low 14s/high 13s stock..they are stock TURBOed(For whoever made some dumbass comment about him having a turbo kit) I know a guy that has one on the Camaro boards and for less than a grand he is running 12s. What can you do? NOT A DAMN THING. Give respect.

if i hear one more ignorant post about "its still a neon... won't make it to the end of the quarter mile"...

do us all a favor and do some research before opening your mouth and exposing your ignorance. a good place to start would be october's scc magazine, with a tear-down and evaluation of the srt-4 engine.

SRT-4 or Mazdaspeed Protege

My mom and I should have enough money saved up for me to get either one of these cars by next year so I'm in the process of trying to figure out which one would be the better choice. The SRT-4 has about 50 more hp and costs a bit less, but I prefer the styling of the Protege. The lower hp of the Protege could translate into cheaper insurance though.

What do you guys think?

I personally like both cars, but would choose the Mazda over the SRT-4 for looks, love the handling (although i have never driven the SRT-4), and the stereo.....lol.

Protege. Not as quick. But better overall package, especially for a new driver. Why is your mom saving? What does she drive?

the SRT-4 is FAST!!! and the 04 will be even faster. Drive safely.

PS. forget 50 hp, the protoge can NEVER and will NEVER be as fast. My friend owns a srt-4 and that **** moves. Ill kick his *** in my evo but still, for 20 grand, that **** is quick. No power rear windows though lol.

If you have to choose in between the two, take the mazdaspeed. Because your mom is buying it, I'll assume your younger and don’t have serious driving experience. Wait until you can afford a car yourself, its much more gratifying.

I'll be honest. I probably couldn't get a car by myself so my mom is helping me out. Once I do get a car, I'm going to be taking care of everything by myself. Oh yeah, my mom drives a 2000 Eclipse GT.

SRT 4 for sure. You dont sound like youll be doing anything where youll need the better handling. Give both a test drive and see what one you like more. Let us know what you think after you give them both a drive.
