You mean the century1 guy? He's kinda got a point. The EVO started as a Lancer with a Galant VR4 drivetrain. Granted, they're much further apart now but either way using the "It's just a Neon" thing is being in a glass house and throwing stones.

I actually didn't know that lancers were out that long. Thanks for clearing it up though. They are two different cars made for two completely different things. I realize this, but I hate when people just call the SRT crap because it really isn't at all. And they are just being ignorant. And overall if you call the SRT just a neon. Then the EVO has to be called just a Lancer.

man, those SRT pics of the SCCA cars are bad ***!!!! I'm liking the blue and white one a lot. I bet those things rip......I'd sure like to have some of the "better handling" goodies they have in there.

The neon is right up there in many handling test speeds. I have driven all the above cars and did not feel that the SRT-4 was 13,000 worse than my STi or my friends EVO during day to day tasks. Track and Mountains, rain, snow sure. But if he cant afford the Big dog cars he will be happy using the spare money to enjoy the car. Making it the car at 20k in my opinion.
You didn't drive the Saturn. It isn't out yet. The SRT starts at $20,000. Some of the other cars start at $17,000. What do you mean by the SRT is right up there in the handling tests? The SRT handles like a bus compared to the SVT, MSP, & MCS.

The 2004 SRT is different than the 2003. Besides the increased horsepower and torque, it has a Quaife differential that is supposed to be incredible in eliminating torque steer and improving handling. Great car for the money, too bad Chrysler chose to style them for kids instead of using a more mainstream approach.

I test drove an SRT a couple of weeks ago (gotta keep up on the competition, right?).

It had upgraded injectors (from the factory) and, I have to say, it was comparable to a stock EVO in acceleration.

I also liked the boost gauge that was incorporated into the dash.

As far as handling and braking, I did not get a chance to test those areas out.

Unfortunately, if people think the EVO and STI are styled for younger people, the SRT is for even more so! IMO

FWD all ways have traction problems. Most of the Eclipse GST owns sell there cars and get GSX. For 1/4 runs. GSX always get the first jump.

RX-7 is a cooler car, but I would take the SRT-4 because the 3rd gen RX-7's rotary engines have to be rebuilt fairly often relative to a piston engine. If they were both stock I bet it would be pretty close but the RX-7 would probably win.

EVO, SRT-4, OR mach1?????????

I am graduating from college in 6 weeks, and as soon as i finish my last final, i am free to buy whatever i want my wife tells me!! so i am caught between a few here. i know they all have their pros and cons, but gimme an overall opinion on hwat you think a newbie should buy. BTW, i also considered an RSX-s w/adding a supercharger! heres the options:

EVO-271hp, runs low-mid 13's stock, 4-dor, awesome car, but 30K!!

SRT-4-230hp, runs 13's stock, and with just a few extra bucks can run with an EVO, but only costs me 20K!! (work for a ford/dodge dealer)

Mach 1-305hp 32valve DOHC all motor monster! huge brembo brakes, better suspension, seats, you name it! runs high 12's with drag radials.....can be had new for 23,500.

also consider i have a son coming any day and he will be riding with me on occasion if we arent in the wifes cherokee!! so i have to always consider the room!! ALSO, i am a drag racer.....might auto-x someday for the fun of it, but more of a straight line racer. always been a honda guy, but i want something FAST!! lemme know what you guys think and why.
