The 2004 with the Quaife has already been established to have the same 1/4 time as an FD RX7.

 

Listen, I actually like the SRT and respect its performance for its price. But to compare it to an Evo is wrong. Many SRT owners have a complex about their car. They know it's fast, but is not an all around performance car. That's the reason so many SRT owners only talk about straight line speed and HP and who they can beat in a stoplight race. I see it all the time, I always get run down by an SRT on the street. They are like a pesky little brother wanting to play.

There is a reason why the Evo is $10,000 more. The SRT is a Neon with a different engine and some interior changes, but it still is a Neon. The Evo is a totally different car than the base Lancer. The only thing they share is the trunk lid, front door skins and some interior dash pieces.

If I had to spend $20K on a new car, I would not get the SRT even though it is the fastest in its price. I'd rather get more quality for my money even though it means a slower car.

 

I will agree with you, I have heard of many SRT owners with a complex about their car. You will always have those people though, mostly younger kids who get their car from their parents. This is the same case with EVOS, so it cant just be narrowed down to SRT owners.

So, the evo shares the trunk lid, front door skins, and some interior dash pieces. Ok, so the front fascia, hood scoop, and wing are not shared with all Neons. We seem to share the same headlights and taillights. Engine is not the same, wheels are not the same, power not the same. So I repeat, its the same dumb argument of "your car is still a lancer". You seem to have proved my point with the statement you made.

what is the point of an AWD rally champ if u buy it for drag? i personally wouldnt do that, but its all preference. just wondering where did u get the supercharged rsx type S from? thats a decent front wheel drive HANDLING car, u can make those into a monster on the track though with type R transmission and internals...Hytech makes an engine package with TODA and HONDATA for the typeS, it blows away a jackson racing supercharger, the all motor package makes about 300+ wheel and about 11000 redline, 12.0:1 compression, on pump gas
hahaha if u want pure drag...buy a Yamaha YZF-R1, u can beat ferrari's, but u can have an SUV or something for daily driving

well, thanks for all the input guys, and i must apologize, for i feel i have started quite an arguement over the SRT-4 and its reliability and value in comparison to the many other vehicles on the market........but this wasnt my intentions..i assure you that. i actually have been kicking around the idea of an S14 240sx, but not the usual sr20det........those are getting to be a dime a dozen, and where i live, its domestic dominated area, and i wanna have something japanese that can compete.......but also something you dont see everywhere like a MUSTANG or camaro or firebird, etc. you guys know what im talking about!! so my research has brought me to the future plans of an RB25DET skyline swap into the S14. i did a ton of research today, and i figure if i can install everything myself i shoud have 10K or less in it and it should be a monster!! i found a s14 locally with brand new cusco LSD and cusco Zero2 coilovers for about 5K.......i think its a great candidate for the swap!! its not 4-door, and not AWD, but i figure with some drag radials, it should be a monster with SOOOOOO much potential!! does this sound better than a moostang now??

 

Have you considered a WRX. Kinda in between on price, 4 seats, AWD, and a ton of aftermarket support. Just an option.

You'll thank yourself for getting a bulletproof rear and the TR3650 is a decent transmission. The Evo has a much better chance of breaking expensive driveline parts (Transfer case, tranny, clutch, diffs, etc.) if you plan on drag racing it regularly.

Honestly, I'm a drag racer too and didn't picture myself ever owning an Import (And was all but sold on the '03 Cobra). After driving the Evo though, I couldn't say no. I traded in my '01 Cobra an hour later.

Well, you do own a Dodge,so you are not as intelligent as you think.From a dealers service department standpoint,you did make a good choice as it will keep them in $$$$$ for years to come.I personally know of 2 people that made the same mistake as you and purchased a neon on steroids,and it seems that they put more miles on their rental cars while their srt4's are in the shop.
Hell,i forgot what color neons that they bought since they only seem to be driving rentals since their purchase.I even once owned a dodge and it was also very fast,then I grew up,got a job and bought a REAL car and found out what fast really was!!
