I think you need to remove the SRT-4 out of your list and add a wrx or something.I think the MACH 1 and EVO are both bad *** in different ways and if you can afford one of the two,go for it man.The srt 4 is cool too but it's a neon man,it wont hold it's value.

Yeah, the WRX is a very nice car. And it would suit you and a family as well. I have seen many pictures and read literature on the cars, and they are very nice! Im not too keen on the mach 1 though....

First off, I am an EVO owner too. However, I think this is getting pretty ridiculous. It seems to be a SRT4 vs EVO thing. The kid is not even knocking the EVO or saying the SRT4 is better or anything. I bet if he had the 30k, he will buy the damn EVO instead of the SRT4. But I don't understand why you people are giving him a hard time. I think the SRT4 is a great bang for the buck! I think the person that started this thread should get the SRT4 because he was looking for a car that is fast in a straight line. You wouldn't want an EVO for that. In addition, he wanted enough room for wife and kid. The SRT4 has that. Lastly, the SRT4 is like 20k and can be modded like crazy too. It seems to fit all his requirements. No one is saying the SRT4 is better than the EVO, he even knows this! But one has to agree that the SRT4 is a pretty good option to go fast.

VtecGSR952000 -- I hope you can tune all of the off-topic crap out to read this...

While you seem to have made a decision, I will mention that another thing to consider with the EVO is safety -- especially if you will have kids in the car.

Do a search for some pics of wrecked EVOs on this site and one thing you will notice is that the driver/passenger area of the car does a very good job of remaining intact. Safety is not an easy thing to measure, and I don't know how the Mach I and SRT-4 compare in that department, but I do know from personal experience that a little piece of mind can go a long way.

The EVO is also quite practical for what it is. When I get married the wife will not have a good reason to 'make' me get rid of the car, and on snow days I can still drive it (which could be a bad thing if your job sux).

My 2 cents.

First off, thank you all for clearing things up! Now, as he has mentioned here, safety is KEY when you are looking for a family car. At least it is something I would look into. From the pictures I have seen, and the insurance rates with the SRT-4, it doesnt seem to be a safe car. Its small and light and would not be too safe if you were to be involved in an accident. But he is right, If you are looking for something all of the family can enjoy and be safe in, then the SRT-4 is NOT the car for you. Just my .02

I consider myself lucky, as I am engaged, but also recently purchased a car for my fiance. Her car is much more safer and a more practical car, and I can still have the SRT to drive around and have fun!

EVO.........no question. I own an SRT-4 but if I could have afforded the EVO it would be in my garage no question. The Mach 1 isn't even in contention for me......the Rustang chassis has remained unchanged since 1979....ummmm, no thanks....I like to turn

i think yuo should go wit an Evo. I raced a stock and a modifed srt-4 from a light and smoked the hell out of them. But when i raced them from a roll then got me by a car. I raced a mach 1 also but i missed 3rd gear and i lose by a car. The only mods i have is a air filter, clutch, and my ecu dynoflashed, so definelty get the evo

esarteefor, you're welcome on this board. don't let a few dorks' comments get to you. true car enthusiasts can appreciate performance cars other than their own. who cares if car A can beat car B in category C? as long as there's competition, things are going to look good for car buyers. we want OEMs to keep raising the ante, right?

The way I look at it, we are all performance nuts and whether you drive an Evo, SRT or STI or even Mustang, we are all looking to make gains in our cars. It's a waste to slam SRTs. They hold their own. But they don't compare to the Evo due to the price gap. They compare to the WRX, Civic SI, Mazdaspeed, not a $30K Evo or STI.

might I ask what the differences in build quality you are referring to? I see many people make blind statements / blanket statements about things without valid information.

I will admit, there are some things that arent great about the SRT-4, and I own one.....but they have nothing to do with build quality...im just curious to what information you have...thanks...

Dude, if you own a neon, and you sit in it, and feel the the interior fit and finish is good, then you have not sit in a real car. Go sit in a Acura or a Benz, then sit back in your Neon, Man I felt that the shifter was gona fall off, roll up windows, the back seats are made from painted potatoe sacks, this is not a quality car, but a quality motor.

13.9? I saw a Neon with itntake/full exhaust/ and boost turned up run a 13.9 last night, these things do not hook up, and yes it was an 04.

I own an SRT-4 and the interior deficiencies are grossly overstated. I've owned mainly japanese cars up until this point (over 20 in all) and the interior on my SRT compares favorable with any other cars I've see at this price. My shifter is solid, the vinyl/cloth seats in front are racing style viper replica's and are quite sweet, and the tolerances for all the interior pieces is as good as any other econo-box racers I've seen. And the rear windows are roll-up because they barely go 1/2 way down due to space inside the door so why add the weight and expense??? I'd prefer to have all roll-down windows given the choice.

And on the SRT forums there are members with the same mods you mentioned running in the low 12's with scanned timeslips to prove it. The stock rubber sucks which is the main culprit in hookup issues.

Nice car.

I'd definitely consider an SRT-4 for a second car although I'd probably end up modifying it too.
