yea but if it was a STi i dont think 100hp difference in cars would make it a closely matched car... its like a normal neon and a normal WRX yea the srt4 is a fast car but, but i wouldnt be suprised with that outcome. the sti is a japanese super car~

Typical domestic talk.......ITS ALL ABOUT THE HP AND NOTHING ELSE. They dont mention the handling abilities and what not. Truthfully, if these guys can afford an EVO they will be on this board!
ehhh.. I agree the superstrongyeast guy is caught up thinking his Neon's a nascar, but....if you have 30,000 and you spend 20 on a neon and 10 on mods...you should be able to hang with much stronger cars in acceleration and handling. The stage somethin kit from Mopar was gonna be a dealer option...700 horse, anyone else remeber seeing this?
i find it very amusing that everyone gripes about hp and street racing, and that in domestic handling and such means nothing.
do you realize that for the most part, straight line acceleration is the DEFINITIVE benchmark for speed? so stop your whining about handling or anything else. besides, what do you ask about a car to find its speed? you ask 0-60, or 1/4 mile or anything, not autocross times.
i'm sure the srt-4 could have beaten an evo. smoked? i don't think so, unless the evo wasn't racing, or was still in break-in rpms. i think the srt-4 is a sweet little car, a great buy for the money, and makes me feel better about american cars and their quality.
and yeah, i know the evo is a superior car. it should be, it costs more. i'd rather have an evo anyday, but for the price, and the performance you get with the srt-4, it will trash most cars out there.

Ok yes i admit the evo might be faster at take off, but on the free way, the Srt-4 will spank one!!! I was on the freeway coming home from san francisco, and A EVO pulles next to me, I tapped my gas pedal in fourth gear to tick him off by accelerating in short bursts... Then I heard him downshift, So i downshift to third.. I HAD THE BEST DOWNSHIFT EVER!! so anyways I was neck and neck with him, once i hit 100, i started to pull, I was like 1 1/2 car length and still pulling before i let off at 135 mph.... I diddnt feel like going into 5th... !! hahahahaha.. Either my srt-4 is faster then the evo on the freeway, or he had a slow driver. some facts that can prove my winnings is... I have a bigger engine... bigger engine will always win the high end "most the time", and he is all wheel drive which will rob horsepower.
WOW is that redneck talk or WHAT

YA know, I originally was going to get an SRT-4.. But the wait, and FWD turned me away.. However, all things being equal, the SRT-4 and the EVO are similar performers in the 1/4 mile.. The big issue for the SRT-4 is traction.... NOW With that said, I also own a 14 second Neon, and its a blast to drive, but their definitely two different animals.. Ignorance is bliss for alot of people. I have beaten a few cars in races I should have lost because I was outgunned.. the 2003 SVT Cobra, and the Z06 corvette are good examples of driver advantage over horsepower.. but bragging rite is still bragging rite.. When it comes down to it on the street, the better driver, or at least the guy not sleeping, will usually get the bragging rite for that night.
for one thing were there even any evos out march 17, and if so I am certain that it would not be broke in. For two they keep comparing a 13.8 evo time to the sr-t 14.2. I myself have turned a 13.6 with a 2.1 60ft time. There are people posting 13.1's (with proof) and plenty of 13.4 and less. That is a full second faster than the sr-t neon( which I have not heard anything under 14 seconds from)a full second in the 1/4 is a spanking. Those are stock comparisons. comparing the two are crazy talk
Man, I wish I hadn't even read that thread on the SRT-4 site. I really feel dumber for reading it cuz of what a couple people said. I do have to give credit where its due. The SRT-4 is a good car for the money, but dammit if it I'd rather start with an evo than have a Srt-4 and 10 grand leftover. You can go so much further with an evo.
A good friend of mine who is also a Mopar fanatic. He owns a 85 Daytona Turbo Z which ran 11.6 @ 126 MPH last year and has had a few more mods done over the winter. Anyway, he was at the track last Friday as a spectator and a guy was running a Neon SRT-4. The best time the car would pull was 14.0 @ 99 MPH. It made me laugh to see the "dealer specs" showing 13.9@107mph. A direct quote from my Mopar loving friend: "Bottom line is the the EVO's 1.74 60' time is a winner every time! The Neon was running 2.2 sec 60 ft times! If it could run a 1.8 60' it would run a 13.4 witch is with the EVO." Now, with that said, the Neon is 10k cheaper and with that 10k you could buy a ton of mods which would beat nearly any stock production car in a straight line 1/4 mile but not on a autoX track or road race. Not to mention that the majority of the Neons and Evos are financed so the 10k is not readily available. So the additional money for mods would need to be financed also.
