I cleaned this thread of all the flat earth discussion. Let's keep it on topic in here.

If they lost $0.78/share...I doubt they realized profit.
Maybe I am missing something?
Snapshots of ownership 2/3 institutions, 1/3 non-institutions:
http://www.nasdaq.com/symbol/tsla/ownership-summary
WSJ Summary of Tesla:
http://quotes.wsj.com/TSLA
Note that its got negative earnings:
EPS (TTM)
$-4.86
So I don't know where is profit shown?
Can you explain please.
There are many many articles about Tesla and Space X living on Subsidies of US Gov and some investors.
For some reason they see it as strategic, although I trust Musk is clever politician knowing where to grease-the-palm to get public funds their way.
For example:
From article just a few days ago,
http://www.barrons.com/articles/tesl...trending_now_3
- Tesla’s long-term debt has continued to rise, to $5.8 billion at the end of 2016 from $2.8 billion at the end of 2015. Meanwhile, its operating cash flow was negative $448 million in the latest quarter. The company has $3.4 billion in cash and may raise more soon, but those trends could worry investors.
As I said, I am more than happy to invest into cool new technology.
I don't mind paying premium for US made, significant premium.
But, I do mind spending public money on private company- and without asking me and all the rest of us Citizens- having some politician profiteering privately by bribes/gifts from Tesla lobbyist.
One alternative is that we citizens vote, to subsidize something like Tesla: and perhaps we agree we'll give X amount of cash period. That means limiting production to limit loss.
So what, they can continue their development and sales cycle, and developing new models that should be more profitable.
We're into performance cars on this forum, and I can see EV tech applied in performance hybrid like F1 - but an EV with batteries is regretfully likely to continue to be heavy first and foremost, damping dynamic performance, with inconvenience of charging, that makes the experience not as satisfying.

Stock price can (and does) go down if a company under performs (doesn't hit projections), even if the company turns a profit.
