How dealers sell clean cars with frame damage history
Hi guys,
A lot of you might be aware, I certainly wasn't till now -- long story short I bought my '04 Ralliart 11 years ago and it had perfect, clean Carfax. Took it CarMax yesterday and AutoCheck.com shows frame damage auction, reported in '07, 6 months AFTER I had bought my car!
Apparently it's a scam tactic, illegal but difficult to prove at times given the costs are on the buyer. When buying used cars, Carfax may not be showing frame damage history of your car and dealers take advantage of it. This article sums it up pretty well: http://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/201...ge-cars-clean/
I had put 170k on my car since buying it and fortunately not indication of frame damage nor did I have any issues with the car over the entire decade. I love the car, the engine is still as smooth as ever. I'd be super pissed but at this point it's too late, and I'm grateful I've had the good run for my car. Carmax is offering me $500 for it, lol.
After I sell it, I will post the VIN # here with hope that the next owner will be smart enough to google search it before buying.
And make sure you check AutoCheck.com in addition to Carfax.
To Mitsu, I can only say I am grateful for making such a resilient car And if that Dealer is still in business I'll make sure online forums and any reviews sites are documenting this.

sucks man, but glad you got your moneys worth out of her. This is why I always tell people to PPI before buying.

Sounds like you at least got a good amount of trouble free use out of it.
You could prob get $2k for it if you sell it to a private party...

When vehicles get that cheap, it really doesn't. $2k is what a decent condition running vehicle simply costs.
