Reliability is not a problem if you stay below 700 HP / 700 TQ and follow the service schedule every 10k miles. Gearbox and clutch fluids are every 40k miles, plugs/coils 60k. Valve clearances don't need touching.
There have been a few isolated issues with the drive line damper springs failing, which is easy to replace yourself - just pull the box off the back of the motor.
Cam phasers and cam follower fingers can be an issue, but only if you fail to check the oil level regularly and let it go low.
There is a good SF Bay Area shop - LAR Motorsports - that can do anything that I cannot, and they are friendly and don't charge the McLaren tax. Plus there is a great community accessible through the McLarenLife forum.
The main thing is to drive them - I already have 3k miles in the first month

I love the air brake on these. I come up on one at Palmer and the air brake had a message for me. :P

I did not mean for this comment to belittle this car upgrade by the way.

I've always like the McLaren's and its definitely an awesome car. Great upgrade from the Evo!

Hey, now. I still have the Aston and may be swapping it for something exciting.
Will run me six doggies, though ...
Supra would have to go, though.

Damn taxes on the house ($950/month)... $850/month for two KIAs (21-Sorrento Hybrid, 22-EV6)... I wonder why high end toys feel like they will ALWAYS be out of reach...
Oh and the wife doesn't work. Two kids...

But hot damn that whip is sick.

I didn't read ANYTHING about Nissan making the engine. I remember MHI provided the turbos, which why wouldn't you? The v-band design has always been superior.

I'm having way more fun in the 12C than the Evo now I have got used to it. Handling and performance are stupid fast for a 4 wheeler and much closer to the performance of the R1's I've been riding for the past 20+ years.

Nope. Just worked hard and saved my clams for such an opportunity.

No offense taken - actually I took it as a positive and well informed comment.

Thanks. It's a great car now I've fixed a few minor issues by replacing the leaky Oetiker clamps with double band Murray clips.

Hope you are not going to the P cars?

I was in the same situation, then my kids both decided they wanted to go to med school and blew my savings out of the water. Set your goals, then modify them to deal with the stuff that happens. Stick to them and you will get there.

Congratulations on the new ride! The fact that you went from an Evo to an MP4-12C actually makes me feel better about my car. Great color choice too.

I used to be pretty upset about those things, too. If you live on the East or West coast and make between $80k to $120k per year, the time you bought your house has an incredible impact on how much disposable income you have. Luke, who is a Pharmacist, has just started a family and has a six figure income. Luke is living paycheck to paycheck because he just bought a house next to John. John is a Home Depot Operations Manager and makes $70k a year. John bought his house 10 years before Luke and can comfortably afford to pay his mortgage, property tax, and take at least two vacations a year. Luke is sadly playing a different ball game than John.

The best solution for this is to save, save, save for larger down payments on big ticket items (Cars and Houses) and do many tasks that you would normally hire somebody for, yourself.
