My uncle recently bought an R32 and I got to take it out for a drive yesterday. I didn't take it out on the highway. Just took it on some inside roads and did some sprints. Going in reverse took some getting use to. It is actually in the upper left corner and the stick has to be pushed in to get to it. The car has a nice rumble to it, like aftermarket. The clutch is too soft for my tastes, probably because I am use to the Evo. Ride is surprisingly soft for the car's height and 18 inch rims and low profile tires. Although the clutch is great for high traffic city driving. Interior is much better than the Evo's. It also tells you how many miles left on the gas tank. One thing though, for some reason it feels quicker than the Evo. Every time I accelerated from a stop, the power just comes on strong from the beginning and accelerates smoothly. And this is just in a residential area. Not to mention it isn't turbo'd. My uncle also has a supercharger on the way, which bumps power to 320. That thing is gonna be a monster.

I test drove one a few weeks back and to be honest my impression was the exact opposite. The drive by wire lag was somewhat apparent to me and when it did hit It didnt really impress me. Great interior, the exhaust note was nice and I loved the overall perceived quality of the car though. Might be picking one of these up depending on what happens with my car.

 

its quick to be sure, but i'd have to agree with fury, there seemed to be a bit of a lag with the drive by wire. i did love the interior and the exhaust note is right on.

 

uhh...R32 as in VW or Skyline.

I thought of the VW R32 first but i think Boosted RS is thinking the skyline...

I actually wish they offered the TT 3.2 with a normal 6-speed as opposed to DSG.

Although the DSG is a wonderful piece of engineering, it isn't able to handle much more than stock torque before having fits.

With a bit less weight, and a shorter wheelbase, the 3.2 TT handles. It's still a fallback consideration for me in the event the Evo falls through. The the lack of a normal 6-speed is a downer.

Yes, there is a 6-speed available in the 225 1.8T, but the 3.2's suspension and brakes are beefed up in comparison.

I moved my friends R32 GTR around the workshop, and i thought that was pretty aggresive car stock, then a modified R32 GTS-T with frontmount, a/m turbo and engine work.

But thanks for clarifying it heh, can you guys try to write Skyline/VW next to it when your saying R32 please ?

I got a chance to flog a VW R32 at the dealership the other day I agree with you on most points. The car has an incredible interior, it is very, very nicely appointed with amazing seats and a steering wheel to die for (even better than the evo's, IMO). The car also has quite a loud exhaust system for a factory system which is awesome considering VR6's have the most beautiful exhaust note this side of a 360 modena. The tranny was pretty nice, handling was the best I've ever experienced from a golf, and the brakes did their job nicely as well.

I felt the power was so-so. Overall, a very nice GT in my opinion.

 

just a note... it's not a VR6 in the R32... it's a V6...

the VR6 is a 15 degree V, almost an inline 6, whereas the V6 in the R32 and all the other current VW's are a 60 degree V...

the reason it felt quicker was because the power was linear, whereas the Evo has a huge surge at 3500rpm's, but feels a tad sluggish below that...

it's a really nice car, but it can't hold the Evo's jock in a performance showdown...
