Camaro SS vs EVO 8

Who said anything about street racing?

https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...ad.php?t=93094

Anyways, a stock EVO 8 will jump out on an SS and the SS would catch it by the end of the 1/4 mile. However, a few mods on both cars and the SS wouldn't hang. If you did everything possible to both cars, internally and bolt on, the SS would win.

Damn, how about it.

I would also add, EVO VIII being a difficult car to launch, and the SS being a low end torque monster (lots of wheel spin if you are not carefull) , it could very well be a drivers race in the end.

I have had a couple run-ins with SS' (automatics btw). They kill you on the highway past 100 with intake/exhaust. If I were tuned at all I may have had the upper hand.

I saw 3 different Camaro SS's(seemed mostly stock) run at the track(MIR) this past saturday, not one of them hit the 13's. They were all between 14.1 and 14.6 runs. I was pretty surprised. I thought they were quiker than that.

They are properly driven. I've yet to get a change to pwn one off the line though.

It should be noted that all the SS' I raced had exhausts, not sure what else.

anybody else cant get the link to work? whats up Chris hows it been going? I just got revved at by a ram air on the way home a second ago. Im not scared.lol Im pretty sure I can rape him to 120. He definately had exhaust though. My good friend has one as well but he wont race me. After he saw my time slip he kinda admitted behind my back that he I would probably win. Whats a race after 120 anyways. Once I reach 5th the job is done.

thought so, must be for the so called wording of street race. yeah the car is running like crap right now, but need s some more tuning for the weather. Thinking about cams as well , but I just lost my job on Friday, so lets just hope I can find a way to keep the Evo without spending my lifes savings. the fastest Ive seen the SS go at our local 1/8 mile is 8.3 and thats with some mild work. I can go 8 flat all day long and thats with no tuning, bald stock tires and stock clutch(15000 miles on both). New tires are being ordered tonight.

I had an older SLP Packaged Z28 (basically the SS) with the LT1.. It wasn't all that quick, my Evo is definitely alot quicker than my Z was.. I'd say its real close with my old Z when it was supercharged.. the newer Z's are actually real quick, and definitely have the V8 ***** hangin under 'em.. Mostly stock for stock, the Z is a bit quicker getting to the top-end, but the Evo is a bit quicker to accelerate off the line.

I have raced and beat 2 SS's from rolls. I don't think either was heavily modified, athough each had a least exhaust.

My roomate has an SS. Their speed has everything to do with driver. They'll run low 13s all day long driven well, and I've seen a few dip into the 12s on drag radials. SLP is 2 blocks from our apartment, that might have to do with the quickness of the F-Bodies around this area too.

yes, red light to red light like what gonna happen around town , The Evo will rule. On just about everything for that matter. The SS definately has the top end, but like I said before whats a race after 120 or so, if dragging the 1/4 would be over by then. A zo6 will walk me after 120, but who cares bc I know its the AWD holding me back. But when it comes to a street car, lets see the AWD hold me back through the turns, not. The most exciting part is the V8 guys get so pissed when they are beat by a "little 4 banger", but who cares as much if you are barely beat by an engine nearly 3 times your size!!!?

I have played with an ls1 transam. He has full longtube headers, lid, x pipe, and no rear exhaust. It is a 6 speed. We were dead even to 110 where he started to barely trickle ahead (as I expected). I was very happy considering the lack of mods that I have. His car was very fast and sounded even faster

My old camaro did 448rwhp and 435rwtq on 91 octane. It had heads/cam. It was a 2000 Z28. Car also ran 11.2@126 on the motor. I also had a TNT 100 shot on it, but never did dyno with it, or run it at the track.
