Cheapest Drag Strip

What's are all the moderately good drag strips in the No. VA area that are moderately cheap that you can run on weekends or evenings?

I know for a fact that US 13 in Delmar, DE costs me $ 15 to run import class on sundays. The import class is pretty strong there too. They just resurfaced the track over the winter so the racing is good. I know that may be a ways away from you but it's a start.

N1te, I think that Old Dominion in Manassas is pretty cheap (I've never been there), but it's only 1/8 mile. Let me know when you go and I may tag along. I'm curious to see how much my recent additions can improve my times...

Check it out from OD's website:

"Old Dominion’s Street Car Program is limited to mufflered street cars. Wednesday night events run from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Cost is $15.00 to “run what you brung” and $5.00 to watch. DON’T MISS IT!!! Visit www.OldDominionSpeedway.com or call (703) 361-7753 for additional information."

Steve, I'd be willing to go check it out. If not to run, then just to spectate the first time. If I were to run would I need my own helmet or do they provide one?

You'd need your own helmet I think. When we rented out MIR, I didn't know and I didn't bring one, but fortunately this guy who was running a 14 second car had a helmet I got to use all day. If you're 12.99 or under you need a helmet

13.99 and better at Capitol, btw.

Not much use in going to ODS, unless it's just to practice launches.

That's exactly why I want to go. That MR clutch is tough to launch properly. And hopefully there won't be a real huge crowd out there.

Warrtalon, are you still slipping the clutch slightly before full hookup on the launches? And what RPM are you using?

Yes, I rev to 5500-6k or so, then slip ever so slightly until it begins to grab and pull forward, then I let out the clutch while hammering the throttle. Of course, this was only possible with the 5k launch limiter switch disconnected. Luckily, this method resulted in no clutch odor afterwards (4 tries).

Ideally, I would LOVE to go to ODS just to practice launches all night, but the way I look at it, the stock clutch has only so many runs in it with such hard launches, so I am limiting my runs as much as possible. When I go to the track, I go with a goal in mind, and when I hit that goal, I drive home happy to know that my car is still in good working condition. With all of your mods, you probably will just upgrade to a strong clutch if your stock one goes, but I'm trying to maintain the warranty as long as I can.
