J/k That's cool that you have an Evo. Personally, I've got way too much pride to accept a gift I can't use for two years. I'd be embarrassed to show it off knowing the first thing that would spout from someone's jaw. Sorry to say, but your dad wasn't too bright for buying you something that's gonna collect dust. Not only that, but he could've got you the same damn car two years from now and saved 18gs. No offense but explain the practicality of you owning that car, and if not for practicality just tell us why. Does your dad have more money than he's knows what to do with?
The whole point to the buy your own car is you appreciate it more.
It also teaches you early on, you have to work for what you have. Daddy isn't going to buy you a car forever and you have to get off your A$$ and learn what the real world is all about.
My problem with a young kid driving an Evo is the fact that it will ultimately be in an accident or he will lose his license for tickets, etc. Argue all you want but the odds are stacked against them to have an accident. They are inexperience drivers and they have accidents, plain and simple. It doesn't have to be a "speed accident", christ they could drive like grandma but it is still trashing a good car. Everyone of the older guys on here can tell you that they said "I won't get into an accident" when they were young, and I'll bet a majority have had that driver error accident that is chaulked up to inexperience.

2) For all you know...He could be a very careful driver.
3) If his Dad has the money to buy him the car, why wouldn't he purchase it for his son. Is there something wrong with purchasing a vehicle for your son?
4) If you give me this "I had to work for my ****ing 89 CRX."... your an *******, plain and simple. People said the same thing to me when my dad purchased my first car. Now i'm twenty, 3rd year of college, making insurance payments, making 31k dollar car payments and I have paid every semester bill out of my own pocket. But, the same *******s still want to say my dad bought the car for me... So **** them!

Anywho, on topic...am I the only one who couldn't give less of a flying ****? (And since I normally don't give one I suppose that would be negative flying ****s). He's got the car, you don't, and he is not keeping you from getting yours. I am suprised people didn't jump on the "too young for an evo" bandwagon the second this was up.
boosted, if I had 50k to blow I'd be driving a Sykline GT-R.

EDIT: Ah, there are the posts I was expecting.

its like saying "don't hate the dealer, hate the drugs".

excellent points timz
with power comes responsibility, and you have to walk before you can run.
the kid has my congratulations, but also a forewarning of caution and discernment, which is often lacking in 16yo's.
either.

Without lying to yourself, answer this seriously. Do you pay for your college? Do you pay for your room and board? Did you buy that supposed $31K car on your own credit or did daddy cosign? I could buy a $60K and pay for it no problem if that's all I had, and that's the ****in truth. I'm not hatin', but when you go around telling overzealous average Joe's to **** off because they're tired of paying out the *** for everything they've got just because they get a little jealous, you know you've had your *** wiped your whole life.

He'd be smarter if he paid me more.
EDIT: Actually I jokingly threatened to leave a year and a half ago and he returned with a joking offer to buy me an Evo. Within the next 12 months I think I really will be leaving though...or maybe just getting a new car out of the deal.

It has nothing to do with it being his 2nd car or that his dad bought it for him.
It's the fact that this kid obviously has an irresponsible father who will likely only realize his irresponsibilty when he puts his sons casket into the ground.
People have no clue what "good driving skills" consist of these days. Just because you passed a test and have a few months wheel time, doesn't mean you are responsible enough to handle a serious car.
Not that I necessarially posses all those driving skills myself......But I do know that almost no 16 year old kid has enough worldly life experience to posses it either.
The only people who will argue the point that it is ok to give kids fast cars are the kids who have recieved these cars themselves....or the parents who do it.
oh, and btw, a 14 yr old who "owns" an Evo....I think I'll just call BS on that one till I see some pics or proof otherwise. Who buys a new car for a kid who is 2 years away from being driving age?
SC~ :P
