Question MAzda rev it up DC?

NExt weekend, the 26th of July, is the Mazda-rev-it-up challenge at Fed-Ex field in DC. www.mazdarevitup.com

I'll be there at 8 am for my run group...... Is anyone else signed up to run? If yes, you might as well stay at home....cause I'm gonna win!

Good luck, SC, there are some pretty hot shoes running in the DC "Rev It Up" event.

Sunday at 10 for me. But a ton of local autox'ers have signed up so I'm not optimistic about my chances

You don;t drive your own car at this event. You drive one of the specially prepared Mazda 6's provided for the event.

Each city's event was won by a "pro class" driver so far. I won't qualify by their rules to be pro, but I won't be a novice class driver either. I've been to about 30-40 autocrosses and a handful of course events....so I know the basics.

It'll be fun.

Philadelphia this weekend

DC was full, so I'm heading up to philly for this weekend. My friend did the charlotte and he said it was somewhat of a rip off. Instead of 2 laps, one warm up and one real for each drive, you only got 1 lap. The time was set by a pro driving 3 laps. In other words the only way to win is to be one of the first on sat. to drive, before the pro learns the course. Since I am on sunday, I have to belief in winning, but hey it's not my car and I get to drive it as fast as I want with no worries. Can't be all that bad.

I'm in on one of the first groups of the morning on Sat.

Others I have spoken to said they got both their laps. In fact, I am scheduled for 2 sep times in the day to drive my lap.

slightlyshady1, Take a look at the site. www.mazdarevitup.com. There are other things to do than watch the competition. There are gocarts, Mazda test drives on some sort of an autox like course...etc

Did it in Boston last weekend. Cars are automatic, so a pure pig to drive around the course.
Even in manual mode, the gearbox is slower than watching paint dry.

No one expected that the Mazda 6 was going to be very sporty.....did they? I thought that was a given.....

The point is that everyone cometes in exactly prepped cars....so it comes down to the driver, not the prepping skill and resources $$ of the cars owner.

Going Sunday

Got to get up early 8am registration. Not sure if I'll take the EVO or my 94 Probe GT with a for sale sign (good advertising as it's slightly modded). Check my other posts, just picked it up last night and want to baby it a little. But if a group of EVOs are going to be there Sunday morning maybe I'll bring it. We could get together, wouldn't that be a statement!

You brought the Evo right? I was there for 8am registration too....I saw a bby Evo parked a few spots away from my LY Evo.

How did you do Bob?

I know we didn't win...I think some dude named Neal Sapp won....huhu! Though I think it is silly that a real PRO driver like Mr Sapp would enter an event like this....he has enough events he can enter!

EDIT: Neal didn't win.....

I came in 97th out 229 Pro drivers...... Overall ranking is 257 out of 1971 competitors! Not too bad....

SC~ who was classed as a 'Pro' too....huhu

DC rev it up

No I didn't bring the EVO, brought the light blue Probe GT with the for sale sign in the front row. Was backed and sided by other Probes. Got to sell it, wife says two cars are too many to insure and keep-up.
This was the first time I tried autocross, registered as novice, did some TSD rallys about 15-20 years ago. I didn't do that great but I take heart in knowing that I didn't hit any cones. I wasn't aggressive enough, with the Probe or EVO I really can't stand on the gas or brakes just driving around. The instructors just rattle on about putting the pedals to the floor, but having driven on highways for MANY years it seems counter-intuative. Did reduce my time by 3 seconds from 1st run to 2nd run.
Did have a lot of fun!

I was there Saturday morning... saw a yellow EVO take off as I was coming in with my Black EVO... we waved at each other (anyone here). Then on my way back saw a Red EVO on the other side of 495... we both looked at each other (anyone here). 2 EVOs in one day... that's never happened before!

As for MRIU I was classed as Pro and came in 103 overall and 59 in class. I tried running my first run more in a rally style, with LFB only, and that was a total mistake... the course was too tight and there was too much grip to need to do it that way. I didn't have time to really do the clinics or practice (except for one practice) so I didn't feel super comfortable with the handling of the car. In any case, the 2nd run I went conservative and just did an easy go, wish I had done that on my first run and then I could have pushed on my second.

While I was there they reset the Pro baseline time, and let me tell you what difference that makes in the scores. He did the run 4 tenths slower and people with a second more on their times were getting still higher scores than all of us that went earlier. It was fun all the same, but do take the rankings and scores with a grain of salt.

Pablo.
