NOVA is one of the most heavily policed area in this country. I honestly don't believe most of traffic laws are set for safety. Like the 3 exhaust tickets I've recieved. My exhaust may not be the stock system but it's not unsafe. To me that's like writing someone a ticket for having a non-factory windshield installed or a non-oem front fender that's painted the wrong color. I'm registering my car in PA. There are no emissions tests and I can run a straight dump pipe out of the side of my front bumper if I want to. As long as the exhaust exits out of the side of the car. There is no Law against what it looks like or how it works. If there is such a problem with how loud it is then why doesn't my neighbor get one for his straight piped Harley Davidson. He starts his bike up at 6 AM every day for 9 months out of the year and he has never been confronted by the police in this area. I would say something but then I would be a hypocrite now wouldn't I?
I had one Fairfax cop even threaten to write me a ticket for having a turbo timer in my car. All because he asked me what kind of exhaust was on my car and I asked him to write me a ticket if he was going to and send me on my way. He had enough nerve to call me a *****!

i live in moco md for 4 yrs and driving round dc md n va is all crap esp va i sear everything in the world id illigal to them radar speeding neons etctecetc and it all starts at state line with posted bs......ive lived in quite a few places n va is def at the top of the retard list!!!!

Maybe I should have elaborated on why I hate VA. They make me pay property tax twice a year, on my vehicle and on a house I don't have or have ever had. 4 times now I've had to go down to the courthouse to explain to them that I'm in the military and don't have to pay their stupid property tax.
The fact that I got pulled over 3 times within a 2 day period. Yes, the cop let me go, but it was a hassle to begin to with. I'd like to see the laws on "illegal" exhaust. I still have my stock cat and downpipe, and I'm definatly not breaking any sound ordinances. My tint is stock. I could have easily thrown my tag onto my dash and voila - it's displayed, but I didn't think he'd be that much of a ***** about it.

I drive from maryland to Florida several times a year, and from Maryland/Virginia to Ohio several times over the last 7 years. Every single ticket I've ever gotten in my life has been in virginia.
I'm done with that state. Switching my tags and license over to Ohio and I'll be a ghost in virginia.

They don't like aftermarket exhaust here in VA. It has to be stock or stock equivlant. Which really means it better damn well be stock and in good working order. They don't see a vehicle make emblem or it even looks like it could be aftermarket, they give out tickets here, unless you own muscle car or truck. I've had tons of friends who have had their mufflers replaced with just a regular one at a muffler shop that supposed to be legal and they get in trouble over it. I've had friends with stock mufflers still get in trouble.
I've lived in Va all my life and it really gets worse all the time. Sadly, I think I live in one of the most beautiful states from east to west, but the laws our idiot state government has created makes this one of the worst in that sense. I mean seriously......the only state that radar detectors are illegal!? Granted it doesn't deter me from using one, but the b.s. ticket if you get caught (4 yrs without one!!) angers me. What pisses me off the most is sitting at a stop-light next to a truck, jacked up to the lower atmosphere with a side exit exhaust pointing at my ear, and a hog on the other with a straight exhaust that the county next to us can hear. But if there is a cop at the opposite light, its me he wants to turn around and ask me about my exhaust.
