Maryland People- Passing Emissions
Maryland People- Passing Emissions
Hey,
I was wondering what you all do to pass emissions. I'm looking at getting the AEM EMS installed, along with a BR 3" turboback (w/ test pipe). I want to make sure I can put the stock cat back on and put the stock ECU back on without failing the test. I saw another thread in the EMS forum referring to lumpy idle with cams and stuff- was wondering if a reflash of some sort might fix this problem. Just curious as to how you all get around it. Also, do you think I'll have any problems with the BR turboback as far as sound levels go? I wouldn't have the magnaflow muffler on (at least not right away). Thanks.

With the AEM they will probably sniff the car instead of just doing the ODB-II scan. So make sure you got the stock cat on which will quite down the car alot . Drive the car for about 1hr so the cat will be doing its job. They say to make sure you drive 15min prior so the cat does it thing. But you wanna make sure it burns up all the crap that can fail the test. Also with the lumpy cam's and the aem you can adjust the cam gears to make the lope almost as good as stock. All I can relly say is good luck cause I got 1yr till mine is due.
That's a good point about heating the car up. Make a few wide throttle passes before you go in to warm it up. Keep the motor running while you wait.
Also, change your oil and oil filter, fuel filter, air filter, and PCV valve. They will help you pass emissions.

Thanks. Good tips all around. The only thing is that I was told the EMS doesn't have a hook up for the OBD-II (like you mentioned) and that would automatically fail you. So they were saying it would be necessary to change out the EMS and put the stock ecu back in. I wasn't sure if the ECU could even run the car with cams and such. I may just go ask someone who does the emission what they would do if I didn't have a hook-up for it. If they just did the sniff test that would be great- just have to bolt the stock cat back on.

That's the way I plan on keeping my car on the road.
