AutoX 2004: Reflection
So it's almost time to start that autocrossing thing again..some may have already started, but i'm stuck at Purdue still. But I'm ready to jump out of this middle of nowhere university and go back to Chicago for another summer of autocrossing. And me being excited over this, and it being 5am, and i've been studying this whole morning, I feel like this will be a good break from studying.
So here it is guys, my unintentional semi-bragging/boasting post:
Bob's Reflection on AutoX 2004
*Note: when looking through the time sheets, look for the name "Bob Ochiai"..cause that's me
Event 1: The season started off with an instructional event called the Learning Curve, held by SCCA Chicago. This event was held at Route 66 Raceway in Joliet, IL. 2 days of all out driving..and I had one hour of sleep before the first day because I was so excited. The 2nd day consisted of timed runs. This is where I got my first top place finish: 3rd out of 90 students.

Event 2: This second event was the Mother's Day event held at the same venue. I placed a comfortable 18th out of 51 drivers...this event led to more successful events later on

Event 3: Third is the TSSCC event back in July. I ended up 10th out of 31st in street tire class, earning myself a trophy for the day. My first trophy ever

Event 4: Next was a Northwest Indiana region SCCA event held the very next day. I placed 2nd in HS, although the first place person had a cone filter. And if you look in the SCCA Rule Book, this usually means that u get bumped up a class. So technically, this was a 1st place finish for me..and I didn't feel like being an ******* and ruining the 1st place guy's happiness.

Event 5: 5th is another TSSCC event held in Schamburg, IL. This was another trophy finish for me, placing 8th out of 40 drivers in street tire class.

Event 6: My 6th and final event was held at South Bend region SCCA on the Tirerack track. This was a great event to finish with. I ended up 1st in HS and placed 23rd out of 87 overall.

Last year really was a great season for me. 2004 was only the second year I have autocrossed, bu I can't believe how much I accelled during that year. It went from last place finishes to trophy finishes...I feel that I need to thank a few people
(wow this is like a frickin cheesy award ceremony).
I sincerely need to thank Steve (aka sdhtown). Although he has moved onto his Mazdaspeed Protege from the Lancer, if it wasn't for him to invite me to an event, I would not have been exposed to this sport. Second, I thank my dad for supporting me for this crazy hobby. He has provided me with a car, paid for the events, and the upgrades (brake pads, 4pt harness, wheels+tires) I have done to it. Third, I have to thank all the people I've met through this sport. This includes, but not limited to evom folks like Bill, Bart, Jerry, Donor, etc. They make going to the event very welcoming and a fun atmosphere
Of course, there's many more people who I met but they aren't on the forums here.
So that's it guys...right there is my overflow of emotion about this sport. Hope I didn't bore you to death
Here's a pic of me autocrossing to even out the boring post with a lil bit of excitement

To a summer of adrenaline.

all this talk about autocrossing is making me so anxious...gosh i cant wait!!
EDIT: wait, I can actually make the Winged Warrior show. Who wants to pick me up?
