If the car is riding really rough....chances are the strut is done.

Jack the car up and look for evidence of leakage. If it is leaking is is done.

If there isn't any leakage the only other way to tell if it is toast is to remove the spring and feel for resistance. No resistance in shock movement = toast.

Was your car lowered at all????? If so you may as well consider those struts toast.

Time for some Coil Overs? Or you can upgrade and pick up a set of MR Bilsteins with springs for about 450 on here. Everyone says they ride a lot smoother. The ideal setup with stock MR struts is with Swift springs and a set of camber plates. Most rave about this setup.

With the crappy roads in this city I wouldn't recommond any race level springs....i.e. 9k or higher. They ride stiff and you will feel every bump in the road.

Ahhh.....the revolver cams are finally in.

While I was at it I put in new head studs, valve springs and retainers, bled the lash adjusters, installed a cometic head gasket, egr block plate, ported the head and put on a new serpentine belt. Was going to do the timing belt & balance belt but the wife was getting pissed I was in the garage for 2 days straight. I will have to save them for another day.

Much to my supprise it wasn't all that difficult. Just a lot to take apart to pull the head.

Now I have to start and rev to 3k for 10 sec, and idle and rev to 3k for 10 sec and idle some 20 to 50 times to fill the lash adjusters. UGH ! ! Oh and tune for the new power.

I was shocked to pull the head and my pistons were clean. There was a tad bit of carbon build up on the exhaust valves, but other than that for 80K the engine seems to be in great shape.

I was pissed when I droped a valve cover bolt into the down pipe....Took another hour to get the rusted exhaust apart to get the bolt out. Guess I should have covered the hole.

She sounds mean as hell now.

Hey anyone want a set of HKS cam gears?

I decided not to install them since I can tune the for the cams with the stock gears. I don't need the adjustability and Buschur recommends running the revolvers straight up any how.

200 bucks and they are yours. Unless you have a better offer. Trade?

The lash adjusters are full and after a long hard fight I finally got the car to idle and run consistant. The HKS suction pipe causes all kinds of issues. Well only having 9 mmHg of vacuum makes things interesting too.

It turns out I had to flip the MAF to get the car to hold steady idle.....well that and a lot of timing, fuel, and injector latency adjustments.

Nick.....I have something for you $ $ $

Timmy....let me know when you want to install those cams. Are you doing springs and retainers too?? If so, order up a cometic head gasket and head studs to bulletproof the head; and because pulling the head to install the springs and retainers is so much easier than on the engine. Those little retainers are a PITA.

I am really getting the hang of EcuFlash and EvoScan. Changing settings based on road logs is becoming second nature. I can't wait for better weather so I can start extracting some power from all of my mods.

So what is everyone going to do to their cars this winter?

driving 4 miles a day... eventually fix the wheel studs on the right rear wheel that Tire Discounters mangled -- along with the lugs...

Oh if anyone is looking for a new brake pad for daily driving -- giro disc magic pads are quite awesome. Great initial bite, no noise at all and very little dust (in fact, i haven't seen any yet...)
