No..A ball joint press won't work.

The easiest will be to get an air hammer. Works like a champ.

Just hammer them out. I put in ARP extended studs in the front and it took no time at all to get the old ones out and new ones in. Just a few good taps with a normal hammer will get them out.

Did you remove the hub? My biggest concern is damaging the hub if i hammer them out... i'm still waiting on 2 more studs to arrive so i have some time.

No you don't remove the hub. You will have to remove the dust shield, which will require you to remove the caliper. Then you will have plenty of room to remove the studs.

Rubber mallet won't work. You don't have to take off the dust shields, just the caliper and rotor. One good whack with a decent sized hammer and they pop right out. How are you installing the new ones? Air gun, a stack of washers, and a standard acorn nut threaded on tapered side out works well...

I don't understand the need to replace the studs unless one is damaged. Is there any other reason?????

Surely you have a regular size hammer. No need for some big sledge hammer. Just give it a whack or two with a regular hammer.

Don't have an air gun but I do have the cordless impact gun. I would think that would work. Just need to get some washers and ...uh an acorn nut?? Would a dremmel be able to remove the cap of a lug nut? I could just use that...???

Yeah I have a regular hammer -- just didn't want to muchroom the top. I guess use the old lugs and whack them instead

As for why I have to replace them -- yeah, tire discounters mangled 3 out of the 5 on my right rear wheel when they mounted my winter tires for me. Studs and lugs just f'd .. I had to get a tap and die kit just to get them back onto the car when I was changing my brake pads.

Mushroom the top of what? The stud? Never happen. One or two quick hits and it's out. You need a regular old-school steel wheel lug nut. You can cut the top off an evo nut, but you need a flat surface against the washers (that's why you put the nut on backwards) and you just can't do that with the evo lug nut with any amount of shadetree modification.

Why isn't TD taking care of this again???

Good point.
I have a lug nut you can use if needed. It's open ended steel and flat on the back side. Works perfect. You can do it without an impact too. I didn't use my impact on mine because it was easy enough without it.

That would be awesome Eli -- where can I meet you to borrow previously mentioned lug nut?

and TD won't take care of this because ...and i quote " oh we didn't do that. You must have". I found out a month or so later when I was changing my brake pads. Took a good 15 minutes just to get all 5 lugs off it was so bad. Called them...nah we didn't do it.
