Thanks for the event Kevin! It was good seeing you as well. I know it had to have been a hassle to rush everything around. I thought it was a good event though for the most part. After all the ol 462whp Evo took best of show import! I was surprised by that but definately accepted it. I did notice just sitting there that she was getting ALOT of attention and quite a few pictures.

Are you going to be starting a new thread with the results and pics?

Thanks again!!

Jrod, It looked great just sitting there. I've got some really nice photos for you also, but it will be a bit before I can get them all sorted out.

It was nice meeting you there as well.

Please excuse me if this has been discussed before, but why the hell are the DSM's being classified as DOMESTICS?

Because they were produced under the US automaker's name, I would guess.

Funny thing is though - there were 2 FC3S RX-7's with LS-1 V8's under the hood running on the domestic side as well.

Perhaps Smoked Mustang can provide more insight?

they were trying to make it less confusing to the croud, altho one talon had mitsu badging on it, lol. it threw me off too cuz the ls1 fc's wanted to be domestic and the talons wanted to be import... who knows?

Yeah I guess its hard to classify the DSM as an import/domestic...from my understanding it was japanese designed, but assembled in an American factory (Normal, Illinois). I guess it wouldn't be fair to classify them as imports because the domestics wouldn't have any good cars to compete with...oh well

The Eagle and Plymouth branded DSM's were made under the "Chrysler" name not Mitsubishi. So with that being said they were put in the domestic class as they were made by a "US" auto manufacturer.

The eclipse was also "made" (what is your definition of made, because the American's certainly had no part in the engineering) in the same American factory. Does this mean the eclipse is a domestic as well? The Talon and Laser are rebadged Eclipse's and were designed by the Japanese and assembled by Americans.

Everyone knows they are the same car but the Eclipse has a "Japanese" badge and has a Japanese auto manufacturer standing behind it. The others do not. They were backed by Chrysler. It does not matter where they are "made" its the manufacturer name thats associated with each. Eagle and Plymouth are American brands.

Yeah I guess...so what would an eagle talon with mitsubishi badging be considered (full body conversion)? Also, if a Japanese designed car with American badging is considered a Domestic, why were Japanese designed cars with Japanese badging and an American engine classified as domestic (the FC's)? Perhaps I am thinking too hard about this.

Anyways, looks like it was a killer event, congrats Jrod! Wish I could have been there! Are there any videos???

It's covered in the FAQ on the WW forums. Yeah, the talons were on team usa and the eclipses on team import because the talon rolled off the lot under a US automaker. We know they're the same.

If you classified by where they come from you end up discussing point of engineering vs parts content vs assembly location as the deciding factor and it gets messy. Nothing is made 100% in the US these days. A chevy silverado approaches 90% which is as high as it gets in terms of parts content. A corvette is about 80%, which is the highest US parts content for a sports car. For example, the crowd would have no idea what car was on what team when some us made honda was on team usa. Going by brand was the easiest way overall, though it made the DSM/3si question fuzzy.

The LS1 FC's we classed as "kit cars" since they have a drivetrain from one place and a body from another. Asking the owners, they felt more like they should be on team usa.

I agree with BQuicksilver. It was easier to keep it simple like this.
