Colorado Driving
WizardofOz:
Yes we have 91 octane at every gas station. Quality is better at certain gas stations though, I've gotten some iffy 91 at a few places that needed octane booster. I've been sticking to Conoco's lately and had good results.
Although people love to think of colorado as "Coldorado" its actually EXTREMELY sunny and warm here year-round. In June temps will hit 90-98° every day, with a good chance for T-storms at 4PM-7PM - then clear off. It's like clockwork.
The large majority of roads are well kept and smooth, there are a good deal of fun gravel/dirt roads near the Pike's peak/Colo springs area...lots of fun for the Evo if you want to go that route. Be careful on a couple of the windy mountain paved roads - they accumulate sand/gravel during the winter and need to be driven enough to be cleared for the summer....generally, if you don't notice any gravel in the first few turns, you're good to go.
If you're looking for some fun, try and head up to Boulder (~2 hrs from colo springs) and meet up with ChronoHunter - he'd probably take you through some canyon roads if you ask him nicely....just don't plan on keeping up with him!

Bartonkt,
I have read a few posts regarding Chrono's skills. That would be impressive to see. We (my wife and I) will probably make it up to Boulder at least once as we are kind of planning on making Co. Springs our home base and venturing out from there. That is about as far as the planning has gotten though as I am trying to get as close to true road trip as possible (no reservations, no real timetable, just sights that beg to be seen.) Thanks for the info on the fuel. I hope there are abundant Conoco's as my fuel economy in the Evo sure seems to be a lot less than our O-Z Rally.

If you want to see how Pike's is supposed to be driven, you should check out the video of a guy who won it either a year ago or 2 years ago....did it in a modified 6.5 Tommi Evo....VERY impressive driving skills, considering the multiple hundred feet dropoffs on the side of the road - and the guy is drifting the corners.
The Boulder Mitsu has this video and will generally put it on for you if you ask.
If you make it up towards Boulder and want a mini tour, I'd be happy to hop in the drivers seat and show you around town

re: Yellow Evo on CU
I would bet that this is the Yellow EVO that Boulder Mitsu had in the showroom for 3+ weeks...they finally dropped it down to MSRP, and someone bought it right away.
Yellow looks **GOOD**. Unfortunately, the guys that I dealt with @ Boulder Mitsu were a group of Jackasses...in addition to their $4k markup on the car when it originally came in.

dealership guys are jackasses at Boulder Mitsu, I bought my OZ from someone younger than me I think.
Colorado in June? depends where you are, the base of pikes peak could be 90 degrees, the peak will be around 40 degrees tho. Lots of different terrain and variables all over the state.
