Muffler Violation Issues...

First of all, I hate being profiled. This is the 2nd time I've been pulled over for 'no front license plate' - however I have a front license plate as put on from the dealer! But then it's... oh since I've got ya; well your window tint and muffler are too loud as well.
Anyone else have issues? My problems have been with the State Police exclusively.

The muffler law I was quoted is posted below. Court date pending...

(625 ILCS 5/12‑602) (from Ch. 95 1/2, par. 12‑602)
Sec. 12‑602. Mufflers, prevention of noise.
Every motor vehicle driven or operated upon the highways of this State shall at all times be equipped with an adequate muffler or exhaust system in constant operation and properly maintained to prevent any excessive or unusual noise. No such muffler or exhaust system shall be equipped with a cutout, bypass or similar device. No person shall modify the exhaust system of a motor vehicle in a manner which will amplify or increase the noise of such vehicle above that emitted by the muffler originally installed on the vehicle, and such original muffler shall comply with all the requirements of this Section.

Anyone got a decibel reading on a stock car? At idle and cruising from behind; assuming like 3500rpms.

Yeah, it sucks man. A friend of mine who's a cop said that most Milwaukee cops won't pull over for loud exhausts, but I've gotten pulled over in a town close by called Brookfield. When I told him about it, he just shook his head.

I think it comes down to the fact that quite simply what we have on our cars is illegal. When I installed it I decided I wanted the exhaust, and was willing to deal with the harassment that came with it.

I got no front license plate, a 4-inch Greddy Ti-C with a full 3-inch exhaust, straight test pipe, and the only tickets I have is one speeding ticket, 72 in a 45.

Yeah its illegal in IL. My dad has had no front plate on his 94 supra since he bought it in 95 and has not had a single issue with it. Sly, i'm definitely using that line next time!

I've got lots of friends near me with other cars that don't run front plates - never had any problems. I run mine; always have since it's illegal.

Funny, when they say the exhaust is too loud the never ask you about emissions or anything. I'd think that would be a higher priority; like saving the earth and all but guess not. I should have mentioned that, but I had zero time after he noticed the front plate was actually there and he obviously looked unsmart.

I've had setups louder than this - 3 of them w/o problems. I think my stock 05 Mustang GT had a louder exhaust at full power!

i drive an 02 lancer but it so load and backfires like a rally car.. really load..i live across the bridge from san francisco in marin. i got pulled over accouple months ago due to excessive exhaust noise. i have all the basic bolt ons.. IM, TB, header, test pipe... etc... any way the cop pulled me over and said i dont know whats wrong with your car but i know you have some non street legal parts. im not highway patrol but if i was i would probably tow your car.. well he gives me a ticket for not maintaing an adequet exhaust.. fix it ticket
so what i did was reistalled my catelitic converter kept the test pipe in the back seat and drove around to three different local police officers tellin them what happened.( oh my story was.. i was at the drag strip accouple weeks ago and i got pulled over with the test pipe and i was ordered to replace it) this is just a lie to get them to sign off the fix it ticket so i dont have to change my muffler.... wich could get expensive... none of them knew what the cat looked like so i went the highway patrol weigh station and once agin i told my fabricated story.. showin him the test pipe then got on my knees to show him under the car. he didnt even check my car or have me turn it on... he said ill take your word for it that you fixed your car then he signed off my ticket.... i drive an 02 lancer but it so load and backfires like a rally car

ah yes. the joy of exhaust cut outs... get a nice fairly quiet set up, then before the cats (or on the testpipe) install the cut outs set it to wide open (or someware in between) and if you see a police officer or get pulled over, close it. or jus leave it closed and at the strip open it. hopefully in the summer im puting an custom exhaust on the vette, good bye cats hello cut outs

Update.
I took off the front tint & put the stock catback exhaust back on. I took pics and took things to TLC and they were able to get everything dismissed. Thanks guys! I know the front tint was very dark anyways. And I'll take the winter to clean up the exhaust before spring!

In hindsight; must have just been a very picky copper I guess.
