Works dyno day in St. Louis
Btw guys and gals - Just wanted to clarify two things.
First let me say that although this is an opportunity to get an excellent deal on Works products, and possibly even get an on-site reflash, it is not mandatory to buy Works products to participate in this proposed October dyno-day.
Many people will certainly want to, but there will also be folks that may already be using another mod path, have other mod upgrade plans, or just want to dyno their stock Evo, or other automobile. Others may just want to participate in the gtg, but not dyno their cars, and thats ok too!
Folks with non-Evo Lancers, or other performance cars may also take interest, and we need to keep options open as we look at framing-up this proposed event. It is possible that it could get enough interest to require a two day gig instead of just one....we will just have to see.
The point is that regardless of your desire to purchase Works product(s), the opportunity to partcipate in a nice regional gtg, and to talk and share war stories with other performance car buffs is mutually exclusive and should remain so.
This will also be an awesome opportunity for everyone to get to know Ron Williams and Axis Racing. I have heard excellent things about his abilities as a tuner, and this will be a great way to get to see his new dyno in action, and to forge a relationship with a regional resource that will hopefully be a mainstay in the region for years to come.
The second comment I need to make is that you do not have to partcipate in the dyno day activities to get the Works GB discount. Clearly some folks just don't feel the need to spend the money to have their car dyno-tested, or for some reason may not be able to make the trip to St.Louis for the event.
So regardless of the situation, if people want to hop on the gb bandwagon they are still welcome to participate in enjoying the discounted pricing outlined above. Unfortunately they will still have to contend with the overnight shipping costs, and timing factors normally associated with ECU re-flashing.
Sorry for not clarifying this info earlier, but this is truly an opportunity to have fun as a group of enthusiasts, while also leveraging our collective buying power to get decent discounts on Works products. Hopefully if we can get enough interest the ability to have the re-flash done on-site without removing your ECU is like icing on the cake!
Thanks for the continued interest!!

N10S,
When talking to David at Works, did he mention if the boost reflash will cost more than the standard reflash? Will it come with 91/93 octane options?
Also, if we were to get the level 2 group buy and David brought down some Works products, could we use the Axis shop to install them? Could we install them ourselves in the shop or would we be expected to play an Axis tech. to install the parts?
Thanks so much,
Mike S.

As far as the boost control re-flash goes, I know it will be more expensive than the regular current Brain re-flash, I just don't know by how much. We will hopefully have more info on what that delta is going to be soon. I would assume that both 91 and 93 octane versions will get the boost control treatment.
Right now we have enough interest to get the 10% deal, but that is also not an on-site deal, so not everyone may stick it out if Works doesn't make it on-site. We have the ability to trigger the orders for this deal immediately, but until we give it more time we will not know if its going to be a simple Gb or something better with Works doing reflashes on site in St.Louis and 15% discount vs 10%.
Because we don't yet have the pricing for the new re-flash, David said we can initiate a 25% down order based on the original re-flash price. When the new pricing comes out everyone will have the opportunity to change their minds if they so desire. Once we have a few more details hopefully we can get the cart rolling on this deal. I think that once people have the dyno details and pricing which should be forthcoming in the next few weeks, it will be a much easier decision, and we will see more folks interested.
As far as installing other parts on site, I would assume that if Ron was ok with this prospect, he and/or his team would have to do the installing. Issues of liability, and the fact that Rons in business to make money make this logical. For all I know Ron may not want the Works parts installed at his place period. I don't anticipate this, but I just don't know yet.
I have not had any discussion with Ron other than getting the basic dyno day flat rate of $1,250 for 10 hours of usage. Ron was out the latter part of last week, so I haven't had an opportunity to even check on Dyno availability for the latter part of October yet. I plan on talking with Ron regarding the details early this coming week.
I am certain that Ron will have specific issues that will need to be addressed and discussed. We are still at the front end of this deal, and I am hopeful that we will get more of the Dyno day activity details lined-out this coming week. I will keep you posted of any info I come across in the mean time!

Nathan, the original reflash sells for $449, and a simple reflash for raising the rpm limiter alone costs about $350 if I remember correcty. I do know that David wants to keep cost adjustment to a minimum.
Unfortunately, I personally don't know what the price will be, as David is very tight-lipped about pricing and performance data until a formal announcement has been made.
David has made it clear that the price won't be unreasonable, and his goal is to remain price competitive in the ECU tuning market. If the dyno charts look good, and the pricing is reasonable, we will hopefully be in great shape still. Regardless no one will be committing to anything until we actually get the hard data in hand.
Hope this helps, and wish I had some real data to share! Unfortunately I am in the same boat as everyone else for the next week or so!

The List (revised 9/16/03)
Well thanks to the addition of our two Kansas area evo owners kcevo, and 1badevo, we hit 9 on the list yesterday and Dan0119 just jumped-in today as number 10 on the list.
The list of potentials so far:
Evo-Bill
CompJoc
boomn29
SpikeLS1
chrisitr
slt
N10S
kcevo
1badevo
Dan0119
We are now at the 15% level with Works in St.Louis doing on-site in car reflashes.
We may need to get at least one or two more if possible to lock this down but, it seems like we can probably begin triggering the orders this week. I think we will let this roll until Friday and then do a check with everyone to see whos definitely on-board for the initial pre-order.

I can't be certain that I will be able to stay in on it. I'm getting a new roof on my house this week and I need to get some all seasons still. I'm not sure how the money will be flowing by the time this comes around.
Count me into....I have a totally stock EVO so we can dyno test it too ..before and after the reflash. Me and COMPJOC will prolly roll together here from KC. I`d also be interested in some other aftermarket parts like turbo back exhaust, boost controller, intake, blowoff valve and some other goodies
....
COMPJOC- thanks for PM. I will give u call within this week.

I will be in on this, all I need is the reflash to change the rev-limiter. Already have boost controller and engine management piggybacks.
Is the Dyno day going to allow us to tune our cars or is it just a gtg? I would really like to get some time on the dyno to dial in the e-manage after it is installed.

Evo-Bill - Sounds good man, I hope things do come together as I for one would like to check the car out!
chrisitr - I appreciate your concerns. Right now we are just getting folks lined-up that want to participate. When we get ready to pull the trigger you can review your current situation, and decide if you are interested. I do appreciate your open fedback though!
1badevo- Thanks for the confirmation! I am fairly certain that Ron at Axis racing can meet your parts needs on the things you listed. When I talk with him later today I will mention the interest in these kinds of things, and I am fairly certain he will be interested in filling those needs.
kcevo - rev limiter re-flash is fine, and basically the same deal Evo-Bill is looking for.
There are three components of this event idea:
1) Being able to get Works reflash at GB rates, and possibly having them come to St.Louis to do the reflashes in car.
2) A dyno day opportunity to allow people to dyno their stock or modified cars. Once we have a better idea about costs and logistics specific to the dyno-day session, we can begin to determine how many people will want to sign-up for dyno runs, and also determine if there are folks that need more time to dyno tune. If the need presents itself we may have to do one primary day with an added day for overflow just to help provide time for folks that want/need more dyno time. Costs would go up for that kind of usage and service, but Ron is supposed to be a kick-*** tuner so he should be able to help you get the emanage lined-out nicely! The dyno part of this just needs to be worked-out still, and I am sure Ron will have some excellent ideas regarding how to manage the varying needs.
3) An opportunity to have a nice fall gtg to talk shop, and to meet other Evo, lancer, and performance car enthusiasts. Just for the fun of it!
Thanks again guys we are ultra-close to the 15% break point on the Works deal, and also being able to have Works make the trip to St.Louis!

Just got off the phone with Ron from Axis Racing. It looks like the latter part of October should be good to go as far as scheduling goes. He did mention that the VW club was going to be doing something in October as well, so there could be a potential conflict, but knowing that group (I used to be a part of it briefly)I imagine they will be looking at early to mid october instead. I will check with the Vw guys to see for sure though.
As far as dyno details go, the standard dyno day cost is $1250.00 for the full day, which can be divided amongst the participants getting their cars dynoed. According to Ron, he can do 3 cars @ 5 pulls each, every hour. In an 8-10 hour period we should be able to get 24- 30 cars on the dyno.
For 24 people the cost would be around $52 each. If we can squeeze a few more cars in, then the cost goes down. In addition, if we can hit the 10+ mark on the Gb and Works comes to town, we may be able to get them to help subsidize the costs a little as well. We will also have to figure out costs for the BBQ and drinks to comeup with a per person cost for the event depending on whether or not the person participates in the dyno activities.
Worth note is that dyno tuning takes a little more time, and Ron said that a person with an e-manage should expect to spend a minimum of 2 hours dyno time/cost. Once we know how many people want to participate in the Dyno activities, then we can determine if one day will be enough.
When I asked Ron about parts and such, he said that he doesn't keep much on hand and for the most part doesn't make that his core business. I think he would more than likely be interested in offering labor support for installation though, as long as he knows what to expect prior to the event.
Btw- We are very close to the level 2 Works deal, which will mean 15% discount on Works parts and services, and on-site re-flash service. I need to remind folks that they do not have to be on site to participate in the gb, and if someone is thinking about adding a throttle body, re-flash, or exhale pipe, this is a great opportunity to save 15% if we can get a few more interested parties to sign on!!

I was under the impression that works was subsidizing the dyno day. I wouldn't want to spend more than $50 for 5 runs as Ron has been known to charge that on slow saturdays. A dyno chart of my car would be more for the hell of it than anything else. It would be really cool to run stock, reflash the ecu, and make a couple more runs to see the results we just paid for.

If we can get to the level 2 with Works on site I think they will help with costs. David acknowledged that he would like to see it as an affordable opportunity for folks to walk away with a faster car and the papers to prove it!
I would personally like to see us closer to $35-45 per person/car for the dyno runs with an additional $5 per person for food/drink costs. Don't know if that is possible as I am hopeless when it comes to simple domestic chores like buying food and drinks?
Btw- I remember you commenting on that $ 50 price previously. I am really not too worried about getting a decent deal, especially once we have locked-in on who is participating. The numbers I gave are really just Rons standard pricing at this point.
