Works dyno day in St. Louis
Works dyno day/GB in St. Louis
Just a heads-up to all central midwestern Evo owners!
I have been sending Pm's and emails back and forth with David at Works for the past several weeks to see if Works would be interested in helping sponsor a dyno day event for the St.Louis Central midwest Evo owners.
David contacted me today and said that Works is definitely interested, and would be happy to support and participate in such an event. They are in the process of getting their latest parts fine tuned and feel that timing is excellent for helping sponsor such an event.
Here is Works proposal:
Level 1 ( 5-9 people commited to purchasing the Works Brain re-flash): Works will offer a 10% discount on the Brain reflash and all other parts as well. At this level Works will not be able to have on-site re-flashing, but will schedule with the participants/customers to have the re-flashed ecus back to customers in advance of the dyno day.
Edit: Just want to make sure that folks understand that with level 1 its basically just a group buy sort of deal for a 10% discount. Works would not be able to travel to St.Louis to participate in the proposed dyno day, and all dyno day activities and costs would be pretty much up to us as an enthusiast group to bear.
Level 2 ( 10-19 people commited to purchasing the Works Brain re-flash): Works sponsored dyno day and BBQ. Works will offer a 15% discount on the Brain reflash, and all other parts as well. At this level Works will be on site performing Ecu reflash services for customers. This will be an in-car procedure that will allow customers to get their reflash without having to remove their Ecu's. It may be possible to do two baseline runs, reprogram then two-three more with the new re-flash in place. Again these details will have to be worked through with Ron at Axis Racing as only he will be able to tell us what he can get done in the time allotted.
Btw- David has made it clear that this discount and on-site service will also be extended to those that do not want to dyno their cars. Its really up to the customer. He also mentioned that if he is on-site doing the programming, if customers want to go drive their newly flashed car to test the drivability and power, he will even return the customers money and original factory program if they are not happy with the product.
Level 3 (20+ people commited to purchasing the Works Brain reflash): Same deal as level 2 but 20% discount on Works reflash and parts. David also mentioned he would consider throwing in a few goodies for door prizes
Note:
1) The new boost control re-flash will be available for this event.
2) If we reach level 2 or 3 participation, David will also bring extra parts (exhale pipes, throttle bodies, ??...)along for display and sale.
3) Tentative target date for the event will be the latter part of October.
As far as the per person cost is concerned, we currently know what the standard Axis individual and day-rate for dyno-day type usage activity is. We will need to determine what kind of arrangement we can arrive at between Axis and Works which might hopefully help deferr costs further to a more reasonable amount. I know turbopoo2000 has talked with Ron about dyno days, so I need to get with both of them next week to determine our best approach for staging this kind of event.
I would envision this being an all-day Saturday type event, with scheduled Ecu re-flash and dyno testing (before and after perhaps?)with appx 4-5 runs per car. Again we will have to determine how many can be slotted during the day. Ron Williams mentioned that in the 10 hour dyno day period he felt he could run 20 cars through at(I believe he said) five runs each.
We would plan on trying to have food and drink for all, and in addition try and get some decent group rates for lodging should people need to do an overnight.
Again this is just a feeler to gauge interest, but a serious one that will be acted-on if we get enough participation. If we do get enough interest, we will then firm the costs up and set the date. Works will establish a special event account, and participants commited to purchasing the re-flash will be required to make a 25% deposit in advance to ensure level of commitment.
I will also send an informational post out on Evo General as a heads-up with a link to this thread, since this forum doesn't get as much activity. I will try to answer any questions I can, and those I cannot will hopefuly be answered by the Works team.
Let me know what kind of interest there is in this kind of event!

Sign my happy-*** up!
I want to know the cost of course, but I have been looking into this upgrade anyway, so this would SAVE me tons of time and money. It would be great to have the reflash done w/o having to be without the use of my car for days and w/o having to rely on the mailman to deliver it safely back home.
Great Idea!!!

Nathan, thanks for the reply!
If we can get enough interest, the convenience factor would be huge. Basically just hook the car up via the diagnostic port, then I believe the stock program is saved on file, followed by the car being reloaded with the reflash of choice.
David is actually making it pretty easy, and is even offering to let folks test drive their cars after re-flashig, and if they don't like it they can be reloaded with the stock maps. Thats how confident he is that you will like the product.
When I spoke with David yesterday, he mentioned that he has been running the new boost control refash in his car as a beta for the past couple of weeks. He said it provides a noticeable improvement in pull throughout the rpm range, and retains the smoothe solid power-band and driveability the original reflash provides. This new program will be a part of this event if we get enough interest.
I expect that we will hear more about the boost control reflash soon, and this will hopefully help clarify performance data, and costs.
Thanks again for the interest!

Can u pay for the reflash at the dyno day? Is there a specific date, because I don't know when I'll get my motor finished. If I'm gonna dyno with the new motor I would like to have my ECU reflashed to raise the rev limiter.
Once we determine interest level, Works will set up a special account for this specific deal. Anyone that wants in on it will have to pay 25% up front, then the balance at the time the Reflash is delivered.
The date has not been firmly set but will have to be towards the end of October. I would imagine that if there is a timing issue with the build of your engine we could fugure out some kind of mutually agreeable option for getting the reflash installed.
Again this is all contingent on interest level, but hopefully we will get this done.

slt,
Thanks, for the reply! It sounds like the boost control reflash is excellent according to David, who has been running it in his car as a beta for the past several weeks! Can't wait to see how the numbers look. Hopefully we will hear more soon! The minute I get any info I will provide feedback accordingly!

Thanks for the reply! I think that there are a few folks that have been on standby waiting for the boost-control reflash so I think timing is excellent.
Credit cards should not be an issue. If Evo-Bill jumps in with the rpm flash, then we will have 4, and will need just one more to make the 10% discount level. I really hope we can get 10 folks interested as I would really like to have Works on site, and also getting the 15% discount!
Thanks again!

David mentioned that we would be one of the first groups to actually get the boost control reflash. I think that Works is having another dyno day out west and that they may offer a similar deal to that group as well I would guess.
A late October time frame allows everyone to save there money, and get situated for this kind of event. Weather should be nice as well.
As soon as we get enough folks lined-up I will contact David and make sure we have the purchasing channel established.
Thanks Again!

and this one right?
I also like to make fun of the kids over on http://www.stlstreetracing.com/ they are kinda fun to mess with
there are a couple of guys there with EVOs as well. And check out http://www.solo2.org/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi also, they are a bunch of (mostly local) SCCA guys into Solo2 and there is an EVO owner or two there as well.
And this makes 5 guys up for the ECU upgrade, right? half way there already!!
Great news....with five on board we are now at the 10% GB level and hopefully over the next several days we will see some additional folks jump on this deal.
Btw- I spoke with David earlier tonight, and he confirmed that once we get ready to get this cart rolling he has his bookeeping/back-office prepped for this deal. They are expecting a call from me at some point and then we can begin calling in to place the 25% deposit orders.
Btw- David wanted me to assure everyone that when we do the deposit orders, your credit cards will not actually be charged until the reflash or parts are delivered to you and the deal is completed. He also confirmed that if we get to the level 2 deal, with Works on site that he will come equipped with a credit card machine.
