Aftermarket Gauges AND Install
I'm wanting a set of aftermarket guages installed in my EVO. I don't like the factory gauges, as the boost guage isn't very descriptive, and I think they are too plain overall.
So, I'm looking for some advice on what and where to buy! I'm thinking 2-3 52mm guages center mounted (where the head unit currently is), and then moving the head unti down to the lower din panel. Not sure what gauges I want besides the boost gauge.
Also, looking for someone or someplace to install them for me!
Thanks,
Nate

Y don't you get the Defi guages, they light up orange so they match your factory interior., Besides the boost guage, get an EGT guage and oil pressure guage. Have AMS do the install, they do really good work, they also carry them.

Thanks for the post, but I don't want mine on the A-pillar. Just a matter of opinion. If/when I went to resell the car, that would kill out a lot of people, plus I'm thinking it probably creates a larger blindspot?
I'm looking for more of a stock look myself.
Thanks!!

ah, didn't realize you were going for stockish. My setup definitely isn't for you then
Yes, the blind spot is a bit bigger and I could always put the stock piece back on for selling the car if need be.

My choice would be to use an Omori single din gauge plate. They make one that provides a slightly canted angle, and one that just provides flat mounting. As far as gauges go I would opt for either Defi D-gauges (mechanical/orange back-lighting), Omori adjustable light gauges, or just plain old Autometer sport-comps with the red light filters in place.
There are three critical gauge types that provide the best bang for the buck on Turbo cars. Boost is obvious, EGT is also critical, and oil temp provides a pulse on the operating temps, which will also help you determine and validate EGT recuperation time, as well as an indication of oil warm-up/cool-down.
Oil pressure and fuel pressure are also worth considering, but would not be on my primary list, although everyone has their own special favorites I suppose.
Btw- I would do this project in steps:
Step 1: Procure and install the MMC head unit relocation kit.
Step 2: Procure gauges and gauge panel and install in dash.
Step 3: Connect power and run sensor lines.
Step 4: Install and connect sensors and test
Doing this project in steps may save you money as opposed to just having a shop do the entire install. You may feel very comfortable doing steps 1-3 , but 4 may be better handled by a reputable shop, especially when it comes to installing the EGT probe.

i called my local motorsport.
they quote me 2-3 hrs just to install a boost gauge and it costs $75/hr.
is this a fair price? 2-3 hrs to install a single boost gauge sounds too much for me
what do u guys think?

Rip off. If you know anyone that can guide you through an install, you might as well do it yourself because installing gauges ain't that difficult. You just gotta know which wires to use and where to mount your gauges.
