replacing the SST with a 5spd manual?

Hi Guys,

I searched but didn't find anything!

Has anyone thought about replacing their SST box with a manual?

How hard will this be?

* will the manual bolt straight upto the motor? (must do right???)
* will the centrediff/tcase bolt up
* obviously the ECU ROM will need to be replaced with a manual
* shifter/cables etc replaced

anything else?

Cheers
D.

I'm gonna bet that it's cheaper and easier to just buy a car with the 5 speed. Unless you're working on an old car without computers and stuff this is almost ALWAYS the case.

Yeah, essentially since the car is fully automated with all the "by wire" systems.... swapping out the transmission is the easy part. Getting it to work all together is the hard part. You would have to swap out or live with paddle shifters on your steering wheel. Get the ECU re-flashed and reprogrammed as a GSR model ECU. Work around modifying the shifter column since from my understanding, the SST shifter doesnt go through the floorboards physically connected to the tranny(not 100% sure on that though).

No way would it be worth it imo

I have looked into this, this will be a very exensive procedure, i truly think waiting for a trans to be realeased will be the answer.... HKS have talked about a 6 speeed manual, which would be nice. You can do it, but be prepared for the money.... I hope that helps

It's a lot harder than changing an automatic civic to a manual one. If you got money, anything is possible.

Maybe down the road when the SST blows, instead of replacing the whole $8k sst tranny with another one. You can probably use that 8k and change it to a 5 spd built transmission.

Here is a thread I posted about the same subject last year:

https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...d-into-mr.html

It ended up being so expensive I ended up trading in the MR for a GSR. Good luck!
