I believe he is referring to this:

It does indeed specify to drain, refill with SSTF-I, start and run through each gear, drain and refill again. I'm curious if this is necessary as well.

How would you go about flushing with mineral oil?

I think the manual has been updated since these pages were printed. Instead of using SST fluid for the first fill, you use the mineral oil.

That would make sense then. I assume it's safe to run the transmission for the short period with the mineral oil in it?

Yeah, it should be fine for the few minutes it has to run.

When you run the car with the mineral oil in it, you do it with the car on a lift of jack stands, with the wheels off the ground, and effectively zero load on the transmission. Do each gear for about 20-30 seconds, including reverse.

by mineral oil I hope you guys mean regular ATF like dexron III or mitsubishi ATF-SPIII, however if you change the fluid on a regular basis this step is completly unecessary, imho

Nope, just plain old mineral oil. During the five minute or so test run, the tranny doresn't get hot enough to break down the mineral oil.

According to Mitsubishi the fluid doesn't have to be changed but every 30,000 to 60,000 miles, so I don't know what your definition of "regularly" is.

imho your wrong. unless your changing your fluid every 3k.

take your sst to the dealership and have them do a fluid change. they will flush it with diaqueen everytime, but i doubt they run it through all the gears.

i use 1 gallon.

yeah well guess what, those 2 qt's (or whatever) is left in the cooler and sump will not make the tranny blow up and turn it into a big ball of FAIL

What exactly is just plain old “mineral oil”? Motor oil? Body rub from the drug store? Anyway, I cannot find anything from Miitsu that specifies a flush with mineral oil, I would be hesitant to use anything other than SSTF 1 in it without proof (might lose your warrantee!). In fact, the “flush” (drain, fill, go through the gears, drain, re-fill) is no longer recommended. In the latest Service Manual that I can find the section “SST transmission service” Group 22C-328 is replaced with “SST transmission fluid change” Group 22C-398 as follows:

TRANSMISSION FLUID CHANGE
M1225008100220

1.Remove the engine room under cover front B assembly. (Refer to GROUP 51 − Under Cover P.51-15.)

2.Start the engine, and let it run at idle to warm it up for 15 minutes.

3.Move the shift lever to every position (P, R, N, D, manual mode) (Hold for 20 seconds in each position), and then move it to the P range.

4.Stop the engine.

5.Remove the air cleaner element and air cleaner intake duct. (Refer to GROUP 15 − Air Cleaner P.15-11.)

6.Remove the filler plug.
AC704517AEDrain plugCentermember

7.Remove the drain plug, and leave it for 3 minutes to drain the fluid.
NOTE:
Because the fluid in the oil cooler, oil filter, and tran¬saxle assembly cannot be drained, the amount of drained fluid will be approximately 5.5 dm3 (approximately 5.8 quarts)
.

(Editorial; this is wrong, they obviously can be drained! This misinformation was in the last version of the manual also. It is my recommendation to replace the filter ($100) and drain the cooler, couldn't hurt!)

8.Tighten the drain plug to the specified torque.
Tightening torque: 35 ± 5 N⋅m (26 ± 4 ft-lb)ON-VEHICLE SERVICE TSB Revision TWIN CLUTCH- SPORTRONIC SHIFT TRANSMISSION (TC-SST) 22C-400

9.Fill the fluid into the filler plug.
Brand name: Dia Queen SSTF-I
Filling amount: Approximately 5.5 dm3 (approximately 5.8 quarts)

10.Tighten the filler plug to the specified torque.
Tightening torque: 35 ± 5 N⋅m (26 ± 4 ft-lb)

11.Install the air cleaner element and air cleaner intake duct. (Refer to GROUP 15 − Air Cleaner P.15-11.)

I've NEVER done the mineral oil thing, and never will. I'd rather have old SST fluid in my trans then residual mineral oil. 42k hard *** race miles with ZERO trans problems.

I can confirm this as well. Previous version of the manual suggested a mineral oil flush. New manual has removed this reference.

I HIGHLY recommend getting the original trans fluid and filter out of your car NO later than 5k. I don't care what fluid you put back in...SSP, OEM, Willal....just get the break in crap out of your car.

Here's Fresh Pro Gold next to oem dct fluid after 17-18k.

And here's what the oem SST filter and fluid looks like after only 2k of stock DD (they start our white) and the fluid starts out light greenish gold.
