Little rough shifts

Question on the sst shifts while in automatic normal. Does everyone have a little hesitation between shifts? I gues you could say it's like when you shift between gears in a manual and the clutch is released and then reengaged. It isn't a true automatic so I'm assuming that's what it is. Thanks.

I don't know about automatic, as I never use it. But yes, I get a little hesitation/gap between shifts in NORMAL manual mode. If I'm driving the family around, I'll leave it like this... but it stays in SPORT mode the rest of the time.

I know what you mean and in normal mode yes mine does the same. In sport and S-sport this does not happen. Feels normal IMO because the trans is casually shifting. I drive in normal 95% of the time.

hi

are you guys talking about shuddering betweem shifts? i get a slight brief shuddering when the tranny engages btween a 1st-2nd gear shift. also i think i get a shudder/wobble feeling when i accelerate to pass a car at highway speed (approx 3/4th throttle) you know pass a car and a lil fun boost feeling.

is this clutch slippage?

Yes. Normal mode has hesitation between shifts almost like how you would casually shift in a manual. Not sure why it's like that but it is normal.

It is because there is slight clutch slippage at every gear change when the car is in Normal mode. In effect, this reduces the "harshness" of an ultra quick gear change as can be felt in sport and s-sport.

The above has led certain people (including me) to believe that longevity of the clutch packs could be enhanced by using the car predominantly in sport mode

Mine seems more like the gear changes are rough, like it's slamming into gear. This mostly happens when I step hard on the gas pedal to pass, etc. and I am at a certain RPM near where the computer would want to shift.

Are you on stock tune? Custom tune? Or a GST base map... if so, which version?

I am still on all stock, only 17k miles. I drive a total of about 32 miles highway every weekday. Almost all the miles are highway here in AZ.

Ah, it's been a while since I've been on factory tune. I do recall some of the SST shifts were rather ham-fisted.

It's probably working normally (note I didn't say smoothly or perfectly).

If you mean you drive in AUTO mode, I suggest you try it in MANUAL for a while - downshift in advance of passing, go WOT in the selected gear, upshift before redline... and see how that feels. If you already use MANUAL mode, apologies - just ignore me completely.

Rich

PS. There are tunes around that include revised SST management, to try to realise more balanced operation of engine+transmission... right down to better throttle pedal feel, less "dead" time delay from standing start, etc.

I'd say I drive in one of the auto modes about 50% of the time. It depends on traffic, location, etc. In normal auto it does seem to be smoother, that's probably the "clutch slip" some people talk about that is normal..because it's not shifting hard and fast like in sport. If I control the shifts manually and time them properly with my throttle yes the shifts are normally fine. unless I like hit the gas and shift at the same time or something then it might bang into gear. Sounds like mine is working as intended.
