MR Test drive tommorow, thoughts?
Hello,
Im test driving an MR tommorow. Ive seen a couple of posts about how some of the automatics are hit or miss. Someone please explain what I should be feeling/looking for. Is it just the time of the shifts? The power between shifts? Also please check out my thread https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...d.php?t=379103 If you could give me some input on that I would really appreciate it.
Thanks.

I think he meant MR
One thing to look for, which happens to me every now & again is the hard clunk, when rapidly slowing down to an almost stop & then rapidly accelerating. Sometimes the gears clunk, when the right one is trying to be selected by the computer. Also, sometimes the idle can be really low, like around 500 & bounce up to a bit over 1000, this only happened to me once or twice. You'll also notice that the MR is a bit slow to start off from a stop; it takes a second to get going, so I usually release the brake a bit early when trying to get ahead of traffic.

Wow, this worries me. Is it something that happens with each MR? I never have to worry about this with my MS3 or my last car (2005 Mustang GT) Also with those issues you stated, would you recommend the MR? Thanks for your input.
I love my MR... these issues are very minor to me. I would for sure recommend it, unless you are looking to seriously mod your car soon. If you will, then I would be a bit cautious. Like I said though, it only happens every once in a while, not a constant & it wouldn't happen in "manual" mode. The slowness at start off is no biggie, just something to get use to. I know that the slow start off happens w/every MR, not 100% sure about the clunk, but I do know several people have experienced it.

If your going to do a lot of upgrades to your car DON'T get an MR. Your transmission will not handle it. Friend on mine said 350 HP and the problems begin but I also heard 400 HP max on the transmission. This is what I heard so you might want to do your research. If I'm wrong someone let me know please.

It's only slow to start off when releasing the brake, then stepping on the gas. It's fine from a roll. Sport mode can be switched to whenever (you don't need to be stopped). S-Sport needs to bee engaged from a complete stop (or near fully stopped according to some). S-Sport needs about 3 seconds to engage, while Sport is immediate.
What I'll do it lightly, and I DO mean lightly, throttle up (maybe to 1200rpm or so)before releasing the brake. I'm sure its hard on the transmission but I do avoid the slight lag/slowness when I really really need to...which is actually not that noticable anyways. Your driving style adjusts to suit it.
