Car jerks when shiffting (SST)
Car jerks when shiffting (SST)
Hello,
I have a 2010 Lancer Ralliart. 28.000 miles
When i start the car cold (outside temp 0-10C (32-50F)) and drives away the revs pumps up when the car shifts gears. It feels like it takes to long time for the new gear to get in place so the revs keeps rising with 200-300 rpm before the new gear is in place. This makes the gear shifts very uncomfortable because tha car makes a jerk every time-
The problem seems to disappear when the car is heated up properly.
Can it be the oil in the gearbox that needs to be replaced?
(sorry for my bad english, I'm from Sweden)

it will do that if you don't let the car heat up properly. you should let the car warm up until the water temp is at least close to operating temperature (like 5-10 minutes from a completely cold start). it shouldn't do that when completely warmed up properly. let us know!

ok, it is not the that the car revs that is the problem its that it feels like it takes to long time for it to shift. Say that in 2700 rpm it release the first gear but then the revs rises with no gear in to 3000 rpm before the second gear jumps in and that makes the car jerk. Its revs up from ex 2700 to 3000 rpm whit no gear in and when the new gear jumps in the revs are to high so it makes a little jump.
I am not driving the car hard until its warm, never.
And after 5-10 min its no problem with the gearbox. But is this really as it should?

yes, this is totally normal. the sst is designed to operate at a certain temperature so if you take off right away after the car has been sitting in near freezing weather over night, the transmission will behave roughly. if you just let it warm up, it will be better on your neck, not to mention the sst itself

But who have the time to start the car and sit in it for 5 min before driving?
Its makes no sense

My Mercedes diesel from 2004 runs smoothly in -15F right away, no jumping at all. And the SST jumps around when its 60F outside

But it feels good to know thats its normal.
True. The engine idling for five minutes does NOT warm the tranny.
You can cycle the transmission through the gears, but I find if I just drive gently until it comes up to speed it is okay. Perhaps use normal/manual mode until it warms up to control the shifting.

OP - Have you done regular maintenance on your TC-SST since you've had it? You should change the fluid and filter by about 5K miles, then every 15-20K after that (imo). I've seen several times people posting that their TC-SST is acting funny when it hasnt been maintained, then gets better after maintenance.
