TC-SST Break In

Hi everybody,

I just purchased a stock 2010 Evo x MR T with 50k miles and shortly after purchasing it, it threw code P1208. Long story short the tranny was replaced under warranty. The dealership told me to break it in by driving softly in normal mode for 6,000 miles. This seems a bit long to me, so i thought if anyone had any guidance as to the number of miles for breaking it in and if I should be in normal, sport or super sport?

I would think that SS would be the best as it has the least amount of slip, but maybe the clutches need some slip to heat and seat?

Thanks for any and all advice.

"...driving softly in normal mode for 6,000 miles" WTF, are you kidding?! That takes the prize for lamest, most BS advice I have ever heard from a dealer.

First, no break it in at all needed AFAIK but you could do a 500 mile break in which would involve something like this...

NEVER drive in NORMAL mode until after you break it in--NORMAL is the worst thing for a TC-SST, new or old.
Make sure to warm it up for at least 15 minutes, with some active shifting (not just rolling in freeway traffic) before going WOT
Use only Sport or S-SPORT
Don't track it or thrash it (and overheat) on canyons for 500 miles, but do some spirited driving when it's warm
Remove the fog-lights so it gets more cooling
Enjoy it

Thanks for the info. I thought that sounded crazy! I also need to do my first fluid and filter change at 15k miles, and 30k intervals after that?

I am thinking the previous owner put something other than the OEM Diaqueen fluid in the tranny, thus causing it to fail, but is there something other than changing the fluid and filter that I can do to decrease the chances of the new trans failing again? I heard of people putting into neutral when coming to a stop?

Also, since the warranty is going away next month, I was thinking of getting a cobb AP or protune (100% stock otherwise). I don't need to upgrade clutch pacts for that correct?
