Could I adapt this switch to make the SSP Cooler temperature-sensitive instead of switched?

Are the make and break temperatures appropriate?

 

I would have the fan come on at 210, turn off at 190-195. Have the fan controlled by the relay. Let the relay draw from a high amp source, like the battery post in the engine bay. For the control side of the relay, give it power from a source that is on/off with the key, then have the switch control the ground for the relay. That way the switch never sees much load. So, you'll want an NO switch that closes when the temp gets up.

 

Why turn on the fan at such a high temp? I thought operating temp was 180?

It can control up to a whopping 15amp fan. I literally just cut the hose going to the OEM SST cooler and clamped this guy in place with two worm-gear clamps (-8an matches the 1/2" hose). The SPAL fan that I mounted on the cooler pulls something like 5 amps. All you then need is a fuse piggyback that adds a fuse (any auto store), and make sure you use a slot that is switched by ignition. As for temperatures, the OEM thermostat sends SST fluid for cooling at 150F. It is therefore believed the correct temperature for the fluid is between 150F and 200F. Things go horribly south at 274F. So having the fan turn on at 180F and off at 165F is perfect. I have been quite pleased with this setup for over a year.
Adding (improved) ducting TO and FROM the cooler/fan would help even more, and is on my todo list.
