Slurred / slow shifting issues

Hi all

2009 RA Lancer - has basic mods (GST basemap reflash with some additional tuning, intake & exhaust etc) and about 23psi peak boost - the issue I have is inconsistent shift speeds.

Sometimes I'll get a nice firm "bang" full throttle shift - other times it'll slur the shifts annoyingly - you can't feel it but can certainly hear it.

Most noticable in 1-2 and 2-3, higher gears seem fine

It's on stock suspension etc - Almost feels like it's barking up the front wheels and what I'm hearing is wheelspin at times - maybe centre diff being slow to lock up?

Car has 80km's (50k miles) on it and was unmodified until the past couple months

Fluid change? Teach-in procedure? Edits to SST maps in ecuflash?

How do you drive it?

manual (shift) in sport mode?
Auto/normal?

How are you launching? Power brake via 'pulsing' the go-pedal?

When cold it purposely slips the clutches to warm the fluid.
When too hot you get a "limp-mode" until it cools...

Makes a big difference.

The TC-SST is not like any other tranny I have driven before...

If the transmission fluid is below 150F the transmission "slips" the clutches in an attempt to warm itself up. So many people have ruined their clutch packs by doing WOT shifting with a cold transmission. Once 150F is reached the transmission shifts like it is supposed to.

If you haven't changed the fluid and filter yet, do that first.

For what it's worth, I think I'll pin this one down to hamfisted self SST tuning

Did a lot more reading into what I should mess with to get the results I want, reflashed to suit, so far so good and I'm getting things heading the direction I wanted. I think the effect was exacerbated by fitting a much louder exhaust - now that the everything is more audible it makes it seem worse I think.

Can anyone point me in the direction of which maps I want to edit to increase shift speed, other than "you make some edits to this, this and sort of this... we think" - I know I *should* just flash on S-Sport mode but I am really sketchy on the effect it has to 5th and 6th, I've got a lot of 6-7 hr drives coming up and don't like the sounds of the rev hunting

*Danger*
Messing with tune without understanding the TC-SST has really fouled some people.

I would strongly suggest you start with a known/good tune (i.e. GST Basemap) and see if that meets your needs.

Then, if you think you can improve the tune - share with the forum and propose a new version for testing.

I already have the GST base maps, I found them to still be far too slow/soft on shifts at WOT. That's just my preference mind you - I like a harsher more direct feel as opposed to worrying about smoothness

I'm working into it slowly and am happy with the direction I'm heading - I understand there's a wealth of information around but can't find anywhere with a proper glossary of what tables effect what, it all seems to be a bit vague

Would I be right in using the sst torque limit tables to change the shift feel? I've found small bumps up in it are giving me the most direct results in taking the slop out of it and making it seem to engage the next gear quicker

Ah!

Then get your TCU flashed with (EVO X MR) S-Sport!

Higher clutch pressures and even better shifting.

I'm still unsure on with the type of use my car has - the clutch slip / rev hunting at the bottom of 5th and 6th has me worried and I can't find any feedback around it (I do an occasional 8 hour drive) - would it potentially cause damage?

Rev hunting is at most a very minor issue. Barely noticeable and won't hurt anything.
