Good point. He would'a flipped and rolled 3 times. Not that I would wish that on anyone.

If you guys want to really see how the EVO stacks up against, really old cars, not anywhere near the cost of the viper or the EVO, stay tuned for this weekends race at Laguna. as many have chimed in, its hard to really determine what car is eating who, as there are so many factors, it would take a book to list them. driver, set up, type of car, weights, tires, HP to weight, etc to list a few. No doubt the evo is a spectacular car, and no where is the 4x4 advantage more apparent, that in speed GT with the 4x4 audi RS6 with 525hp.

This weekend, the SCCA ITE race group will have 1995 M3s, Mustangs, cameros and vets. Interestingly, there will be 2 Porsche 928s and one 911. the porsches are bone stock, with a set of headers and supension/tires, with engines not apart since 1985! (ie original) you talk about the performance of the Viper at $60k, well some of these cars running against the "viper eater" are in the $10 to 20k range complete, ready to race!

Now, make your prediction now, but i tend to think a well driven M3 with mostly stock components from 1995, will have the edge. I certainly will have my hands full with him and ill be driving the 1986 porsche 928. Im sure the Evo will be right in the mix too, but make no mistake, if a well driven viper was out there, in similar prep, he would be beating us by a few seconds! (as would a stock 996 porsche cup car, or gutted and lightened C5 Zo6)

should be an awesome weekend and look forward to some great clean fun.

1. The Viper driver was on his first race ever on the track. He had ZERO experience racing. He was so tentattive on Saturday that even when a white SE-R gave him room to pass in the corners he did not make the pass until the straights. He did not even know how to be on pole on Sunday. The rolling start was totally messed up because of him. That is how green he was.

2. The EVO did NOT have more fast laps than the Viper on SUNDAY or Sat for that matter. The entire race was 12 laps. The Viper was faster in 8 laps and the EVO was faster in 4 laps. The fastest time for the Viper was 1:59.437 and the EVO was 2:01.181. On Saturday the Viper was faster in 11 out of 13 laps. The Viper started 31 on the grid while the EVO started 24th. The Viper caught the EVO and passed it by the 3rd lap. You will find the lap times here http://www.mylaps.com/ Look under NASA and ButtonWillow. You can only get the details if you have a registered transponder, but you can get the fast lap times.

3. Mistakes happen when you race and you win or lose by them. There is no I "almost" one in racing. The Viper made a mistake in lap 4 that cost him the lead of the race. He lost 12 seconds to the EVO. The EVO made a mistake at the end of the race and the Viper passed him. This happens all the time.

4. To win your class with NASA you MUST at least race in 6 races, ie, three race weekends. It does not matter if you are the only one in the class. No one told the others not to show up.

The EVO is a great car and having driven an EVO with a Mueller suspension, I am pretty sure that it is very capable. I loved driving Richard's car around the track. But had both cars been with equal drivers, then the Viper would have prevailed by even a bigger margin than it did.
