Street Modified update

Well I ran my first event with the sm evo today with my staggered race tire setup, with much success I might add. As the car sits now, I am running 285/30/18 Hoosier A3so4 on 18X10 fronts, and 245/40/17 Hoosier A3SO4 on 17X8.5 rears. 750 lb front springs, and 700 lb rear springs with stock sway bars front and rear. I am using Ohlins road and track single adjustables with custom revalve. I decided to have the ability to run pump gas, and race gas, and get the most out of each setup, and have now added an xede piggyback computer management setup tuned by Shiv from Vishnu tuning. Today I ran with just the pump gas map, and only 20psi of boost due to running on a fairly small course, and cool temperature. As far as the engine part of the equation is concerned, I am very impressed with the throttle control and part throttle response that the xede/shiv tuning has provided. It allows really good power control when rolling on and off throttle, in addition, the race fuel map seems to provide the same throttle response while delivering 365 whp, and 360 wtq at 23 psi bleeding to 20 at redline. I will be running the race tune with race gas on May 15th when I get to run it at Ft Devins and will get back to all on that after that event.

On to the results from today. The car was just flat out awesome. The staggered tire setup caused no ill effects and seemed to do just what I wanted it to. No push. Course was mid 30's to low 40's depending on the car. Conditions were cool, in the low 50's, and any bit offline was met with a fair amount of sand.(not good) I actually backed down the boost so it was peaking at 20, and then would bleed to about 18 at redline. The good news is that the car never pushed. If anything I would say it was a bit too loose, even mid corner steady state, but I want to run it on a sticky surface before I will decide on that. It actually drove almost like a rwd car. I was also running it at a higher than ideal ride height due to a few extreme bumps, and not wanting to bottom out. (front was 1" lower than stock, and rear was 3/4" lower than stock. I plan on running at 1-1/2 " lower than stock at my next event at Ft. Devins. I ended up winning ftd by 1.6 seconds, and pax by almost a second. At this point it looks very promising, but in a few weeks I will have a much better picture. I will post up again after that event with thoughts and changes that I may be making.

Mark

Glad to hear the good news Mark! We'd all love to see pics of that staggered tire set-up. It was a pleasure meeting you at Turbotrix a few weeks back

Yes, for a turbo engine, the response is great, isn't it?

Sounds like there's a "new sheriff" in town...

Congrats Mark

It was great to meet you at TT - Definitely want to see pics and hear about the set-up variations you're using in the future.

Congratulations Mark! It will be something to see the Evo contingent at Nationals. The M3 dominance of SM may be over.

How different are the overall tire diameters between front and rear?

Mark, post up the link to the event results, if you don't mind. Like to see who else ran.

Hey Mark, glad to hear your tires setup work out great. From what I've notice in the past, our cars seems to handle really neutural when the weather is cool and/ or the lot surface is not perfect. But then the car start to push when the weather gets warmer especially on good sticky lot like Orchard Beach or some other national sites with flat and smooth surface. So keep us update on the progress.

Btw, the Quaife is in and it rocks with new Victoracer. Took FTD last week in Giant Stadium by .8 of a sec.

Actually Kevin that may be good, and is why I am waiting to run up at Ft Devins before I make any changes, cause it was big time loose. Also here is the link to the results.

The same thing happens with my set-up. It's fairly loose on cool days, esp. on the first run. It changes toward understeer on hot days. This trait is more exaggerated than on rwd 50/50 wt balanced cars I've driven. I attributed it to not getting enough heat in the rear tires due to the front weight and drive bias?

Great results Mark! Can't wait to see how the car does in Topeka. It will be interesting when Navid runs his ESP car on concrete at the Atwater tour this weekend.

Any pointers on braking w/o ABS? I've got a co-drive in an RS and having a little trouble adjusting.

I think a lot of us on this thread are Xede converts.
