Nice info thanks guys! Oven no way I could have tracked my car in the rain fo the first time. I guess it is like playing golf nobody goes out the first time and shoots in the 70s , gotta work up to it.

not sayin i was up "in the 70's" by any means, but up there with a bunch of track enthusiasts that run there ALL the time... but it definately teaches you about the car. and the place i went has no walls and tons of run-off so no worries there.

On a typical Road Atlanta track day it is 4 30 min. sessions for two days. I know why get the car if I am going to drive it like my minivan. Recently I did go around the track with JasonS and yes he is as fast as any other car out there in advanced class with no engine modifications. Running about the same times as the vipers and zo6. We did see a new rx 8 get totalled when it hit the wall. Kinda scared me a bit especially when I keep a car cover on my car even when it is in the garage and always park it about a mile from anyone else. May need to look at tracks with larger run off areas since I have no track exp.
Rook, thanks for the compliments, and these other guys are very correct about the autocrossing. I had been autocrossing for about three years before I ever did a high-speed track event, and it teaches you when the car is near, at, and over the edge of handling. That's where you can develop the feel for the edge and keep the car there, without fear of a total-loss type situation. I hadn't thought about it when you and I were talking, but I'd say absolutely try the autocrossing.

jason

If you dedicate an evo to be a track car with even 10k in mods you will be competitive.

Have Fun!
An Elise? Is that what that yellow thing is I kept passing?

I honestly think it was a little harder to get around that pesky Lotus Esprit V8 twin turbo, but after a lap on his *** & him not waving me by, I had to just flash my lights and blow by him The other Esprit V8 twin turbo with hoosiers and an ECU chip managed to get by me, but I think I was doing pretty well for a stock Evo on street tires and Hawk HPS street brakes.
